Outrageous Open Studio Walk

The Glenwood Avenue arts district, a loose collection of artist studios, galleries and shops along Glenwood on both sides of the Red Line tracks in Rogers Park, is holding a studio walk and street fair from noon to 6pm. Live music, kids activities and a chili cook-off suppliment the peak into artist studos. Jump off at the Morse stop and head north. For more info, call 847/982-3211.

Harold Washington: Man and Movement

The Chicago Historical Society, on Clark Street at North Avenue, will have a special exhibit commemorating the legacy of Harold Washington on the 20th anniversary of his first election. Opens today, runs through the end of May. More info here.

"Three Tales" Video Opera

Three Tales: A Three Part Digital Documentary Video Opera. The Chicago premiere of Steve Reich & Beryl Korot's new multimedia opera, with live orchestral accompaniment. (Read more about it here.) Pug Crawl

Yes, you read that right: a pug crawl. This Saturday from 1-5pm the streets of Lincoln Park will be mobbed by 250-300 pugs, tongues hanging everywhichway. The action starts at The New City YMCA, 1515 N. Halsted and makes its way north. All people welcome, but only pugs (no, not even weiner dogs) can join the crawl.

33rd Annual Artists' Open House

More than 70 artists show their work in over 40 locations around 18th and Halsted during this long-running artists' open house. Pick up a map at CS:33/The Curated Show, 2003 S. Halsted St., and head out to explore artists' studios in the area. Runs Saturday and Sunday 12-7pm. Free. More info here.

Rem Koolhaas opening at IIT

IIT, known for it's architecture by Ludwig Meis Van Der Rohe, is having a grand opening for a new student center designed by Rem Koolhaas. Check out some of the pictures. There will also be a lecture at 2pm, free for IIT students, $10 for the public, with live streaming.

Mason Jennings

Minnesotan folk heartthrob Mason Jennings is playing two shows at Nevin's Live, 1450 Sherman Ave. in Evanston, on October 4th. The early show is at 8 p.m. and is 18 and over, the late show is at 10 p.m. and is 21 and over. Tickets are $12; call 847/869-0450 for more information.
