33rd Annual Artists' Open House

More than 70 artists show their work in over 40 locations around 18th and Halsted during this long-running artists' open house. Pick up a map at CS:33/The Curated Show, 2003 S. Halsted St., and head out to explore artists' studios in the area. Runs Saturday and Sunday 12-7pm. Free. More info here.

Fray Day 7

Fray Day 7 is upon us, and for once Chicago is one of the venues. Come to the Noble Fool, 16 W. Randolph, Sunday at 7 for an evening of great storytelling. Featured performers are David Kokeski, Billy Lombardo, Elyzabeth Ashe, Jason Pettus and Tyler Bohne. No word if there's a fee, but bring a little cash for donation and beverages. More info here.

Justice for Barry

Barry Cunnane was shot in Ravenswood on May 24. His killer is still at large. A benefit, Justice for Barry, will be held Sunday, October 5th from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. The event will feature a bevy of Irish music, contemporary and traditional, and a raffle. Donations will be accepted at the door.

The Mayor's Mouth

The Mayor's Mouth is a live action cooking show based on the favorite recipes of Chicago's mayors from Mike Bilandic to Prince Richie Daley, as reported in the 1989 cookbook Chicago Celebrity Chefs (foreword by Mike Ditka). A special Pilsen Arts Walk performance is scheduled for 1pm Sunday at Sanctuary and Fire Arts Garden on the corner of 19th and Peoria, one block west of Halsted.

This performance will feature Jane Byrne's "Snowbirds" and Harold Washington's Dessert Bars. "One lucky audience member will get to sample Jane Byrne's pineapple-infused shrimp salad and in the fairer than fair grand tradition of Washington's grassroots campaign and administration, every audience member will get a piece of the pie. (actual pie not included, dessert bars instead)."

It's all free, but donations are appreciated, and copies of the cookbook will be sold for $10 cheap, with proceeds to benefit I-80 Drama Co. and The Lakefront Foundation.
