Ravenswood Corridor Art and Industry Walk

Today is the Ravenswood Corridor Art and Industry Walk which will take place from 12-6pm on Ravenswood Avenue between Cornelia and Lawrence (on the east and west side of the Metra tracks.) The corridor has more than 160 firms which employ more than 4,000 people and generate more than $50 million per year in annual payrolls. There is a wonderful mix of manufacturing warehouse tours, artisans open houses, and high-tech demonstrations. If you're into knitting or spinning you should make sure to visit Lorna's Laces at 4229 N. Honore Street. There aren't any stores in the Chicago area who sell her materials but you may be able to pick up some experimental dyelots or seconds for a very fair price.

Ravenswood Corridor Arts & Industry Walk

Check out all the great galleries and studios -- as well as the manufacturing companies -- along Ravenswood Avenue from Cornelia to Lawrence. Start at the new Lillstreet Art Center (formerly in Lincoln Park on, well, Lill Street), 4401 N. Ravenswood, and work your way up from there, live music and great restaurants along your path. Edward Said Memorial Concert

CSO maestro and Israeli Daniel Barenboim leads a group of Arab and Palestinian musicians in a concert in memory of his friend and Palestinian activist-intellectual Edward Said. Mrs. Said will be in attendance. The concert is free. The Concert will take place at the University of Chicago's Mandel Hall (1131 East 57th St., corner of University Ave. and 57th St.) on Sunday, October 12th at 11 am.
