MODChicago - Maintaining Our Cool

MODChicago is holding their fifth annual "Our Way of Thinking" MOD Weekender, "Maintaining Our Cool." The Weekender serves as a way to bring fans of 60s music from all over the country to Chicago in celebration of mod culture. The festival starts on Thursday night with a 9pm-2am "Meet and Greet with the Elite" at Delilah's wherein DJs will spin and you'll be treated to a live set from New York's Mod Fun. On Friday night Sonotheque hosts a Mod Soul Dance Party with DJs from both coasts. On Saturday night the Note hosts the main event with the Mod All Nighter, featuring DJs from Germany, Spain, Norway and the US. A/V Geeks: Greatest Hits @ Heaven Gallery

The A/V Geeks, the guys who have over 18,000 of those educational films that you used to watch in high school science classes (some of which are available for download through the A/V Geeks download area at archive.org), are presenting a series of their films tonight at Heaven Gallery in Wicker Park. Admission is a suggested donation of $7, for which you will get to see a program of amazing old films with catchy tunes: "Fun With Lines"; "Malakapalakadoo Skip Two"; "Shake Hands With Danger"; "VD is For Everybody"; etc. The show starts at 9:00 PM, and bring your notebook because there will be a test. Printers Row Book Fair

All ye booklovers hail the Printers Row Book Fair! Seriously, if you've never been you should really take the time out to go, and if you have been, well, I guess I'll see you there. Join hundreds of author panels and readings and browse over three blocks of reads from new and used booksellers. Everyone from your favorite little bookstore on the corner to, yes, Barnes & Noble will be there, lined up along Dearborn and Polk. Preview: Don't Make Me Over (In Tribute to Dionne Warwick)

The Black Ensemble Theater is previewing their lastest musical Don't Make Me Over (In Tribute to Dionne Warwick). The musical explores Warwick's accomplishment and musical contributions over the past forty years and includes some of her biggest hits. With four singers, three will play Warwick and one will play a concert singer who only performs Warwick's songs. Sounds awesome, doesn't it? Preview tickets are $30 compared to the regular $30 tickets; preview performances are scheduled for June 3, 4, 9 and 10 with the opening performance on June 11. All performances take place at the Black Ensemble Theater, 4520 N. Beacon and will run through August 27. Infamous Commonwealth Theatre 24-Hour Project

To conclude their 2005-2006 season, the Infamous Commonwealth Theatre is undergoing a 24-hour project in which four plays will be written an performed. The inspiration will come from four different, real love letters, given to four different playwrights who have from 8pm on June 2 to 8am on June 3 to write a script. The directors and actors will join the playwrights shortly thereafter and all four plays will be performed that night, one time only. Drinking & Writing III @ Goose Island

Neo-Futurist alums Steve Mosqueda, Sean Benjamin and Diana Slickman present the latest iteration of the long-running play Drinking and Writing, an exploration on how your drinking affects your writing, and vice versa. The play will be performed through July 1 mostly on Saturday evenings; check the Drinking and Writing Website for a complete schedule and to purchase tickets. This evening's performance happens at Goose Island (1800 N. Clybourn) at 7:00 PM. Also coming up: the second annual Drinking and Writing Festival on Saturday, June 10.

Gospel Music Festival @ Millennium Park

Thirty Years of Punk

Thirty Years of Punk showcases four generations of music, including U.S. Bombs, The Effigies, Toxic Reasons, Destroy Everything, The Hollowpoints, I Attack, The Methadones, Street Brats, The Groodies, The Infected, Squared Off, Hotlips Messiah, The Jerkwads, The Scarred, The Frantic, Dead City Rejects and Eyeball Skeleton. It's all ages, and it all happens at STAGE 83, 10900 Archer Ave. in Lemont, from noon to 9pm, with a 21+ afterparty till 4am promising surprise musical guests. Tickets are $10.

Southkore Fest

Southkore Fest, the first-ever all Latin Punk festival, kicks off tonight at 3057 W. 26th St., featuring Intifada, 30/30, Condenada, Eske, En La Olla, Ruido, Tropiezo, BSA and Outraged. Doors will open at 8pm, music starts at 9pm. All ages. Admission is $10 at the door or $8 in advance -- tickets to both Friday and Saturday are $18/$15 in advance. Blue Balliett @ Art Institute

Blue Balliett's at it again with a new book, The Wright 3 following kid detectives Petra and Calder as they solve mysteries in Hyde Park. Last year they went after a priceless Vermeer; this year they're staking out Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House and cracking code to find hidden treasures. Illustrated by Brett Helquist, best known for his work with Lemony Snicket, the books are a delight for anyone who's spent a significant portion of time in the HP. Artzilla Craftzuki

Yet another craft fair hits the city, not that there's anything wrong with that. You love yourself a good craft fair, don't you? Artzilla Craftzuki is the brainchild of Danielle Colby, of the eponymous design company. Featuring jewelry, art, t-shirts, stickets, stationary and more, the fair will be held at Schubas from 12pm-5pm. There will also be raffle whose prizes inclue gift certificates, jewelry and other good things, so stick around if you're interested in winning some good stuff. Schubas is located at 3159 N. Panel Discussion: Modern Serbian Drama and its Emerging Impact

TUTA presents a panel discussion with playwright Ugljesa Sajtinac and others. Presented in conjunction with the American premiere of Sajtinac's Huddersfield.
