Dutch National Ballet Project

Dance Chicago presents the results of a unique collaboration between five local choreographers--Randy Duncan, Lauri Stallings, Paul Christiano, Frank Chaves and Altin Naska--and six dancers from the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. Dancing with the DNB artists will be special guest artists from the Joffrey Ballet, River North, and other local companies, who will also present works from their own repertoires. Opening: So This Is It

In his first solo exhibition, artist Anthony Lewellen's So This Is It (pdf) opens tonight at 13th District Gallery. New work and a site specific installation will be available for veiwing, with music provided by DJ Tevo Howard. 7-11pm at 1706 W. Chicago Ave. The show runs through September 9. Lollapalooza

If you haven't heard about Lollapalooza's return to Chicago this weekend, then you've likely been under a rock. The now three-day festival will feature over 130 bands on 8 stages, improv groups, freaky clowns, and artists. Music highlights include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Common, The Flaming Lips, Ween, Wilco, and, yeah, a ton of others you'll likely want to catch. Old Town School workshop: write a song in an hour

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents the latest in a series of one-shot workshops for budding musicians too busy to take a full class. Today's workshop: how to write a song in an hour, as taught by musician Mary Sue Twohy. The workshop runs from 1:00 to 3:00 PM (so technically, you could write two songs in this class), and costs $25. Sign up for the class at the Old Town School Website. Women & Children First Used Book Sale

Women & Children First is having its Used Book Sidewalk Sale Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6 from 10am to 6pm at 5233 N. Clark St. A portion of the proceeds wills benefit the Women's Voices Fund, the not-for-profit programming arm of Women & Children First.
