People Powered plans to refurbish old bikes, paint them blue, inscribe them with words by local poet Richard Fox, then park them by Blue Line stops, free for public use. This evening, at 6:30pm, you can view the prototypes for the projects with the artists (and ask them how long they think it will take before one of their bikes surfaces at a chop shop). Pultizer Prize winner Oscar Hijuelos visits the Harold Washington Library with translator Lori Carlson to discuss and sign their latest work Burnt Sugar/Cana Quemada: Contemporary Poetry in English and Spanish. The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a series of science fiction movies through December. Tonight's sci fi movie is the original restored edition of Godzilla from 1954. The film screens tonight at 6:00 PM, and is accompanied by a lecture/discussion by Jim Trainor of the School of the Art Institute.
