The Portuguese Trade and Tourism Office and Port and Douro Wine Institutes are hosting a tasting of over 400 Portuguese wines and ports at the InterContinental Chicago. Come early for the seminar which will provide an introduction to the wines of Portugal from 6 to 6:30 pm. The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a retrospective of the work of director Spike Lee throughout the month. Tonight the Film Center will screen Lee's Malcolm X from 1992. The film will be accompanied by a lecture and discussion from teacher and author Jacqueline Stewart. The film screens tonight at 6:00 PM. Hey, culture vultures? Looking for something free to do? Come check out a tour and talk by a new artist showing at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Amy Mayfield's colorfully sinister surreal landscapes evoke Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss's nonsensical illustrations. A massive new painting, Curdled sour marzipan and hidden leakage, contrasts intricate ink patterns with globs of raised paint that resemble animal figures and flora. The painting is comprised of four canvases hung side-by-side and is Mayfield's largest painting to date, spanning twenty feet across and over four feet high. It's free and starts at 6:30pm.

Loyola's 16th incarnation of the McElroy Shakespeare Celebration is titled "Where Lies Your Text: Shakespeare in American Sign Language" and will adress the challenges of adapting Shakespeare for performance in American Sign Language. Lecturer and director Peter Novak of the University of San Francisco will direct Loyola Theatre majors in scenes from Twelfth Night.
