Konono No 1 @ Empty Bottle

Hailing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Konono No 1 took the world by storm with their album Congotronics on which they make "electrified percussive glory" using homemade instruments.

Bamboozled @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a retrospective of the work of director Spike Lee throughout the month. Tonight the Film Center will screen Lee's Bamboozled from 2000. The film will be accompanied by a lecture and discussion from teacher and author Jacqueline Stewart. The film screens tonight at 6:00 PM. White Rabbits, Richard Swift @ Schubas

Brooklynite hipster collective White Rabbits sink their late '90s danceable indie hooks into the Schubas faithful tonight, opening for pop rock singer-songwriter Richard Swift. New Chicago addition All Smiles, who headlined a Schubas residency a few months back, open. $10 ahead, $12 at the door. Show is at 9 PM. Spouse, Cola Wars, The Heaven Seventies @ The Elbo Room

Spouse, José Ayerve's beguiling pop-rock project with fluid membership (members are also in Pedro the Lion, The Silver Jews, and The Pernice Brothers) headlines the Elbo Room. Also potentially the last show for local favorites Cola Wars and the the debut of soon-to-be pop legends The Heaven Seventies, featuring Transmission's own Nilay Patel. 8pm at the Elbo Room, 2871 N. World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 @ OCC

Storyteller, historian, and Certified Chicago Tour Guide Michael Corcoran will be giving a presentation on "The World's Columbian Exposition of 1893" at the Ray Harstein Campus of Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. in Skokie, on April 24 at 1pm as part of their "Passages" lecture series. Corcoran will guide audience members on a "virtual tour" of the buildings and grounds featuring over 300 images culled from his vast collection of 1890s era books, lithographs and pamphlets.
