Roy Hargrove @ CSO

From the farthest musical corners come things that grab you, in sneaky ways that totally screw up the stereotypes. Roy Hargrove can make you rock. His branching out into other genres and exploring musical space is a counterpoint to other jazz artists and critics who've demonized popular music (i.e. anything that's not jazz). Roy brings his fire on trumpet to the CSO. Show begins at 8. Ticket information to be found here - the show's not sold out. Yet.

Victory Gardens Chicago Stories Gala

Victory Gardens, Chicago's third Tony-winning regional theater, hosts their annual gala in which they've invited three celebrities to play first-time playwright. This year Sun-Times and CBS 2 entertainment reporter Bill Zwecker, retired Tribune theater critic Richard Christiansen, and the husband and wife team of Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan and New Yorker cartoonist Pat Byrnes have each written a ten-minute play to be directed by VGT artistic director Dennis Zacek. The benefit takes place at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 E. Delaware, starting at 6pm. The evening includes cocktails, dinner, and a silent auction. Tickets are $300, so we apologize to the 99.5% of Gapers Block readers and Chicago theatergoers who cannot afford them. If you are in that other 0.5%, call Kate Oczkowski, Victory Gardens Director of Events and Individual Giving, (773) 549-5788 ext. 2140.
