Peter Bjorn and John free performance @ Apple Store

Peter Bjorn and John (the lack of serial comma seems to be intentional) play a free in-store at the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue today from 2-3pm. The Swedish trio plays two sold-out performances later tonight at the Empty Bottle. 679 N. Michigan Ave.

Bingo Tango @ MCA

Bingo in the MCA Cafe, with numbers called by "local art stars," and tango demonstrations during intermission. So you've got something more fabulous to do on a Tuesday night? Right. Free, 6 PM, 220 E Chicago. For more information, call 312-280-2660 or visit the website.

Wine Spectator Grand Tour Tasting @ Hyatt Regency

Super duper wine geeks may want to splurge on this fancy pants festival of high falootin wines. Tickets are an eye popping $200, but a savvy taster can easily get their money's worth with mere sips of some of the greatest wines in the world. Wineries like Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Ornellaia, Williams Selyem, Qunita do Noval, and Penfolds will be pouring their most highly acclaimed stuff, often by the winemakers themselves. The crowd can be a bit pompous, but who cares when you're sipping Chateau Margaux? Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 E Wacker, 7-10pm.

PAWS Chicago Meet-n-Sniff

If you're looking for companionship of either the human or animal variety, head on over to the Meet-n-Sniff, hosted by PAWS Chicago animal shelter and FASTDATER.com. The evening includes speed dating for singles (and their pets) and a happy hour for both solo and coupled animal lovers. The crotch-sniffing kicks off at 6:30 pm at Joe's Sports Bar, 940 Weed St. Registration is $40, and all proceeds benefit the shelter.

Nicole Mitchell Trio @ Cultural Center

This jazz trio appears as part of a taping for Listen Here! Radio, a local jazz review program that unfortunately doesn't air on virtually music-free Chicago Public Radio. 78 E Washington, 7 PM, free. For more information, call 312-744-6630.

El-P @ The Abbey

Indie hip-hop heavyweight and svengali El-P brings his dark, heavy beats and rhymes to Chicago tonight. Consider it a make-up for his cancelled appearance back in March. He's touring to support his most recent album, I'll Sleep When You're Dead. He's playing The Abbey, whose acoustics for such a show will be far more conducive for this sort of thing that the prior, cancelled show's slated Logan Square Auditorium venue. Hanger 18, Yak Ballz, and Slow Suicide Stimulus open. Keep your eye on our Transmission page for further details. 3420 W. Grace. Doors at 9pm, show at 10pm. Tickets $18 in advance, and $20 at the door. 18 and over show.
