Brand Upon The Brain @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre presents a live accompaniment of Guy Maddin's latest film Brand Upon The Brain! Performing the soundtrack for the silent film will be an 11-piece orchestra, a team of foley artists for sound effects, a castrato (!), and narration by Crispin Glover (!!). Brand Upon The Brain! screens today at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through Ticketweb (2:30 PM screening, 7:30 PM screening). ArtWalkRavenwood Fundraiser

Help support ArtWalkRavenswood by participating in its first ever fundraiser, an "Artist Friendly" silent arts auction. All auction items are from Ravenswood-based artists and participants will be treated to original music by Helen Money, an open bar and selections from local restaurants. Proceeds from the auction will go toward the development of AWR programs. Advance tickets are $30; tickets on the day of at $40. Call 773-954-7419 for tickets and information or get them online. Future of Music Coalition Benefit Show

The Brilliants, My Left Arm and Snowsera play a show tonight at Goose Island Wrigleyville, 3535 N. Clark St., tonight at 9pm. The show is a benefit for the Future of Music Coalition. $8 at the door, 21+

826CHI Urban Golf

Join 826CHI, a non-profit program promoting children's literacy and creativity, for golf the way you've always wanted to play it: urban style. Teams will be one golfer and one caddy and will play through alleys, around dumpsters, across vacant lots, over and under train tracks and through the different neighborhoods of the city. And your equipment will be a golf club and tennis ball. Serious golfers may want to stay away, but anyone who wants to have some fun, meet new people and engage in "some good, old-fashioned ridiculousness" is welcome to come. Tickets are $15 per participant and you must be 21+ to play. All proceeds go toward 826CHI's free programs for students. Rules for urban golf can be found here. Register online or call 773-772-8108.

Windy City Rollers Match

The Windy City Rollers fight to the near-death tonight at the Cicero Stadium, 1909 S. Laramie Ave., Cicero. It's Hell's Belles vs. Manic Attackers and Double Crossers vs. The Fury. Doors open at 5pm, first bout at 6pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door; $25 VIP tickets (for the seats with cushions) are available online only. If you're not sure you want to drive down, get on the 4pm shuttle bus at Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland, for just $8.

Open House for Musical Theater Writers @ Theatre Building Chicago

Writers of all kinds are welcome to attend this presentation, which introduces Theatre Building Chicago's writers' workshop curriculum. National Restaurant Association Show

Billed as the Western Hemisphere's largest foodservice and hospitality event, the 2007 National Restaurant Association Show opens at McCormick place on May 19 and runs through the 22. International cuisine and beverages, equipment, furnishings, innovative design, technology, and more are showcased at this annual event featuring over 2,000 companies from more than 100 countries. There is plenty to do and see, from an "all organic" pavilion to ice carving competitions. Wear your walking shoes - this event is huge and there is a lot of ground to cover.

Slow Food Founder to Speak

The Founder of the Slow Food movement, Carlo Petrini will speak tonight (in Italian, with a translator) at Northwestern University School of Law's Thorne Auditorium (at Chicago and Lake) about his new book, Slow Food Nation: Why our Food Should be Good, Clean, and Fair.

The talk starts at 2 p.m. and admission is $5, although if you're a student or faculty, the event is free. Reservations are advised. They can be made here or by calling the Chicago Humanities Festival at 312-661-1028, ext. 40.

A book signing will take place following the lecture. Books will be sold by The Book Stall of Winnetka.
