9th Annual Share Our Strength / Food Arts Championship BBQ

This Sunday the Galleria Marchetti (825 W. Erie) will host the 9th Annual Share Our Strength / Food Arts Magazine Championship BBQ & Cookout. This offshoot of the 2007 NRA show pits some of Chicago's top chefs against each other in a backyard barbeque battle. Competitors include chefs from Viand, Blackbird, Sola, Les Nomades, McCormick and Schmick's and several other very reputable local restaurants.

While the event is free and open to the public, you'll need to jump through a few hoops to get in. It should be noted that having a culinary or restaurant affiliation will help but it's apparently not necessary. However, no matter who you are, you'll need an RVSP to get in. To get that just e-mail your name, title, establishment, address and phone number to bbq.rsvp@mshanken.com, or call 212-481-8610 x 789.

Sure, that doesn't sound like an event that's quite "open to the public," but they appear to be readily giving out RVSPs, so it's worth a shot. And, should you get in, dress is casual.
