A punk rock prom is like ska music, it's kitschy, it's cliquey, and you either love it or you don't. "Professional" prom band Johnny and the Limelites understands this lures the naysayers with over-the-top antics and obscenely catchy tunes. MC and singer Johnny Agatucci, apparently fresh off the strip club and bowling alley circuit, runs the show with an infectious abandon that should appeal to even the walliest of wallflowers. WLUW DJ's Kate and Rachel will spin party music throughout the night. So, gussy yourself up and bring that special someone or just fly solo and take a chance at L-U-V. The Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Ave.) 10pm; $8 Singles, $12 Couples.
Exotica: Surfin' in Chicago continues tonight with a visit to Hala Kahiki, 2834 River Rd. in River Grove from 5pm to 7pm, then on to Sand Bar, 3733 Grand Ave. in Brookfield at 9pm for more drinks and performances by The Cocktail Preachers and Roger & The Wraybands. Join other tiki and surf style enthusiasts for an evening of drinks and live music; check the Exotica site for details.
Three great bands at Cals (a great little dump at 400 S. Wells) tonight. First up The Gunshy (Tom Waits meets The Pogues), then Frontier Ruckus (if the Decemberist were from the country) from Ann Arbor and finally Chicago's Satellite 66 (Luna, Feelies, Galaxie 500). Music starts @ 10pm.
