The K Records crown gem will be gracing our city on Tuesday night, no doubt dropping some material from the upcoming Share This Place. To double up the "totally hot librarian" quotient, Laura Viers will open. Show starts at 9:30.
The Gene Wilder comedy Young Frankenstein kicks off the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival, which starts tonight at Butler Field in Grant Park (at the corner of Monroe and Lake Shore Drive). The film starts at 8:56 p.m., but Ebert and Roeper will be leading a discussion of the film starting at 8:15 p.m., so get there early! (Weather permitting.)
The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Akeelah and the Bee (PG) at Hermitage Park (5839 S. Wood St.) and also at Augusta Park (4433 W. Augusta Blvd.); and Raiders of the Lost Ark (PG) at No. 511 Park (630 N. The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long festival of the films of David Lynch. Today's film is Lynch's mainstream work for Disney, 1999's The Straight Story. The Hyde Park Art Center dips into reading with Series A, a series featuring experimental writing through readings, discussions and performance. Machine Fest is an 11 day event that promises to be something different then all the other festivals - or at least longer. A new name for the 8th year of the Music With Meaning Festival, Machine Fest will feature local writers, bands and artists together at venues across the city. Sponsored by Machine Media it wil feature talent from Gapersblock, Avant/Chicago, WLUW and countless others. Visit the website for the daily details. Ramp Chicago presents a demo night at Sonotheque (1444 W. Chicago Avenue). Musicians, VJs and designers are encouraged to bring copies of their demo recordings, DVDs, portfolios, etc. and meet & greet with a group of producers, audio engineers, and each other. Music will be provided by Bounte, Protman, Emulsion and Liz Revision, with visuals by Spiderback and Psonikadia.
