World's Largest Music Lesson

As part of its 50th anniversary, the Old Town School of Folk Music is looking to set the Guinness World Record for largest music lesson (the current record: 536 people learning the harmonica in Switzerland). Register online or by phone at 773-728-6000, then bring your guitar to the Welles Park Gazebo on Tuesday, August 7, around 6-ish to check in and tune up. The lesson starts at 7:30, and it's totally free. The school also promises "jamming and picnicking all evening long," if you're into that sort of thing.

Chicago Outdoor Film Festival

The Cary Grant and Irene Dunne comedy The Awful Truth will be shown tonight as part of the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival, at Butler Field in Grant Park (at the corner of Monroe and Lake Shore Drive). The film starts at 8:34 p.m., weather permitting.

The Outift Collective @ Harold Washington Library

Join the members of The Outfit - Sara Paretsky, Sean Chercover, Barbara D'Amato, Michael Dymmoch, Libby Hellman, Kevin Guilfoile and Marcus Sakey - for a discussion of their works and Chicago's influence on their writings. Movies in the Park

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Happy Feet (PG) at Oriole Park (5430 N. Olcott Ave.); and The Ant Bully (PG) at Gill Park (825 W. Sheridan Rd.). The screenings start tonight at dusk, and are free and open to the public. Tuesdays on the Terrace @ MCA

Kick back at the Museum of Contemporary Art after work. Check out the farmer's market out front (it closes by 6 PM), wander through the exhibits (MCA admission is free Tuesdays), and conclude your evening lounging on the terrace, listening to jazz (the concert starts at 5:30 PM) and enjoying one of the best views in Chicago.
