Movies in the Park: Dreamgirls

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screening: Dreamgirls (PG-13) at Lowe Playground Park (5203 S. Lowe Ave.). The screening starts tonight at dusk, and is free and open to the public. Cocktails & Clay @ Hyde Park Art Center

Learn to make art the right way -- under the influence -- in the Hyde Park Art Center's Cocktails & Clay event series. The Center is kept open late so visitors can learn handbuilding, coils or just play with the clay. If you're feeling more social than creative, there will also be drinks, DJs, dancing and tours of the Center's latest exhibitions. 8pm-12am at 5020 S. Canasta, Plane, May or May Not, Driftless Pony Club @ Double Door

Head out to the Double Door tonight to see indie rockers Canasta cast a few well-crafted lyrics out into the crowd. They'll headline a benefit show for the Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP), the brainchild of Shawn Campbell who hopes to fund a non-profit community radio station to replace WLUW. They'll be joined by Plane, May Or May Not, and Driftless Pony Club. Tickets are $10.

Greg Borzo @ The Book Cellar
