Movies in the Park

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Happy Feet (PG) at Franklin Park (4320 W. 15th St.); and Open Season (PG) at McKiernan Playground Park (10714 S. Sawyer Ave.). Chicago Independent Radio Project Accoustic Jamboree

The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) is a group founded by soon-to-be-ex-WLUW program director Shawn Campbell to work toward a new low power FM radio station in Chicago. CHIRP is holding a benefit today outside at the Montrose Saloon, 2933 W. Montrose. It's an all-day, family-friendly acoustic jamboree with Waiflike, All About Me, the Dime Store String Band, the Mudflapps, Kent & Dorothy McDaniel, Feathergun, the Delafields, John & Ellen Wright, Eva Destruction & her Outlaw Band and more. The music runs from noon to 7pm for just $5 (kids under 12 free). Such a deal, and for a good cause!

7 1/2 Cinema: A Tribute to Bergman

Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division, plays host to a tribute to director Ingmar Bergman this Saturday and Sunday, curated by the Chicago Cinema Forum. Here's today's schedule:

3:15pm: Wild Strawberries
5:15pm to 6:15pm: reception
6:15pm: Persona
8pm: Bergman Complete, a three-part documentary on Bergman's film and theater career and personal life. Chicago Theatrical Premiere!

Local H and Baby Teeth @ WestFest

The West Town neighborhood hosts its annual WestFest this weekend, featuring vendors selling fine art, high end craft, and handmade goods, and music. Sunday's line-up sports headlining sets from Local H and Baby Teeth, as well as DJ sets by DJ Intel & Pickel, Frankie Vega, and others. For the full schedule, see the Fest's website. Great Performers of Illinois @ Millennium Park

Throughout the park today (10 AM to 8 PM), musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers, and other performers from throughout Illinois do their stuff. The evening closes with a Pritzker Pavilion concert showcasing "The Best of the State" at 6:30 PM. Free. For more information, visit the website.

Logan Square Farmers Market

The Logan Square Farmers Market takes place every Sunday until October 28. The market is held at the corner of Logan, Milwaukee and Kedzie from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Palmer Square Boulevard Art Festival

Music, food, art and trolley rides (my fave!) will be abundant at the fourth annual Palmer Square Boulevard Art Festival, which will be held today at Palmer Square Park (3100 West Palmer). The festival begins at noon each day, and ends at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.
