Self-Education and Urban Farming Gathering

Come on down to the Hyde Park Art Center for a discussion with Baltimore based artists-activists and urban farmers, Scott Berzofsky, Dane Nester and Nicholas Wisniewski. The visiting lecturers will talk about topics ranging from self-education and urban farming to land reclamation and community-based urban planning. They are really hoping that local Chicago gardeners, artists, planners, farmers, and educators will turn out to let them know what is going on locally. HPAC is located at 5020 S. Cornell Ave, the event is free and starts promptly at 6pm.

Movies in the Park

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Arthur & The Invisibles (PG) at Unity Playlot Park (2636 N. Kimball Ave.); Flushed Away (PG) at Kosciuszko Park (2732 N. Avers Ave.); and Happy Feet (PG) at Harrison Park (1824 S. Wood St.). The screenings start tonight at dusk, and are free and open to the public. Chicago Underground Film Festival opening @ Chopin Theater

The Chicago Underground Film Festival kicks off tonight with Orchard Vale, the debut film by local musician Tim Kinsella. The film screens tonight at 8:00 PM at the Chopin Theater (1543 W. Division). The festival runs through Sunday, August 19; see the CUFF Website for a full schedule and to purchase tickets.

A/V XPLO: Empty Bottle

Featuring over 100 artists and musicians, A/V XPLO offers up a variety of sights and sounds, combining music, painting, sculpture, film, video, photography and more. The first night of the four-day event takes place at the Empty Bottle. Music includes The New Ghosts, The Saturday Nights, Avagami, Renee-Louise Carafice, Midstates, Smallwire, The Bitter Tears and Plastic Crimewave Sound. 21+, doors at 7PM, $10 advance or $12 at the door, the Empty Bottle - 1035 N.
