Barrio Boogalu @ Sonotheque

Sonotheque plays host to the "Barrio Boogalu" a throwdown the pits The Super Barrio Brothers vs. The Agúzate DJ Crew. Look forward to each DJ specializing in classic salsa, Latin jazz, Latin soul and Latin funk, and digging deep into their collections to unearth the finest dusties.

On top of that, films and album artwork by artists such as Ray Barretto, Fania All-Stars, Joe Cuba, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, Mongo Santamaria, Machito and Joe Bataan will be showcased.

Ian's Dog and Pony Show

Comedian and solo performer Ian Belknap will write and perform a new comedy show each night of this Rhinoceros Theater Festival event. And he'll have a fresh crop of guest stars each night to help him make the funny using sketch, improv, monologue, and stand-up -- whatever it takes to make you laugh, man. Movies in the Park: Strictly Ballroom

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screening: Strictly Ballroom at South Shore Cultural Center (7059 S. South Shore Dr.). The screening starts tonight at dusk, and is free and open to the public. Louis Mhlanga & Dobet Gnahoré @ Old Town

Zimbabwean guitar legend Louis Mhlanga is joined by the Ivory Coast's newest sensation Dobet Gnahoré at the Old Town School of Folk Music (4544 N. Lincoln) on Friday night at 7:30p. Admission is $15.

This event is part of the 2007 Chicago World Music Festival.

Jen Stark @ Heaven Gallery

Threadless Grand Opening Celebration @ Metro

Threadless, the purveyor of fine t-shirts, is opening a new store in Lakeview soon, and is throwing a free party at the Metro tonight to celebrate. Joining them will be a bevy of bands, such as Hey Mercedes, Office, and White Hot Knife. The first show, at 6:30 p.m., is all ages; the second, at 10:30 p.m., is age 18 and over. You need a ticket to attend, so visit the store (at 3011 N. Broadway) starting September 10 to pick one up.

Rockin' on Rockwell Fest

The Second annual Rockin' on Rockwell neighborhood festival happens this Friday, right after work. Running from 5-11pm on Rockwell between Leland and Eastwood, the event is free and will feature food from the Rockwell Grill, four live bands, kids activities, and raffles. Bands include Thomas Pace (5-5:45pm), Avalanche Rescue Team (6-6:45pm), Brownies (7-7:45pm), and Arks (8-8:45pm).

Jesse Rose @ Smart Bar

Berlin by way of UK-based deejay and producer Jesse Rose headlines with a special set this evening at Smart Bar. Rose has cranked out a copious stream of original tracks and remixes over the past two years, all of which have cemented his position as one of the foremost pioneers of the new-school house sound that's been brewing on the London club scene of late.
