Adventures in Modern Music @ Empty Bottle

The Empty Bottle and The Wire present the fifth annual Adventures in Modern Music, a five-day festival of unusual music. The concert series continues tonight with performances by Pere Ubu (!), Ulrich Schnauss, Hair Police and Glenn Jones & Jack Rose. Chicago Matters: Book Discussion @ Back of the Yards Library

Now in its 17th year, Chicago's award-winning multimedia public affairs series returns in 2007 with Chicago Matters: Beyond Borders to explore the impact of immigration in Chicago and the region. Altars a Go-Go @ Paper Boy

Unique found objects intermingle with religious icons and sparkling ornamentation with these one-of-a-kind shrines created by young Chicago artist (and Crafty Lady) Stephanie Keller. Figures carved from wood and other materials depict a range of religious icons including Saint Francis and Ganesh. Her work is influenced by art from Asia, Mexico and the American Southwest, with influences by Frida Kahlo and outsider art, making every shrine a unique depiction of a range of religious influences. A free opening reception with drinks and snacks takes place tonight, from 6-8pm at Paper Boy at 1351 W. Belmont (near Southport). Call (773) 388-8811 for more information.
