1930s Comedy @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long salute to the comedy stars of the 1930s; specifically, the Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields and Mae West. Today's films:W.C. Fields' most famous feature: The Bank Dick, which features Fields bluffing his way into a series of jobs; and the Marx Brothers classic Monkey Business, with Groucho chasing after gangster moll Thelma Todd. The Bank Dick screens this afternoon at 3:00 PM, and Monkey Business screens at 4:30 PM. Both films will also be shown later in the week; see the Film Center Website for a complete schedule. Jupiter Trio @ Music in the Loft

Music in the Loft presents the Jupiter Trio, Gold medal and first prize winner of the 5th Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. The Trio will perform the Beethoven Trio Op.11, Zhou Tian, and Dvorak's f minor Trio.

A reception with the artists will follow the concert.

The Hideout Country Social

A Day in the Country presents The Hideout Country Social, a finger-lickin' good music and food extravaganza. Doors open at 5:30pm, and dinner (provided by the bands and guests) begins at 6. Tangleweed plays at 7, followed by Blue Line Riders at 8, and Lawrence Peters Outfit at 9. Bring an instrument and join the open country jam session for the 10pm pickin' party. Admission is $7, but bringing a covered dish (ie. an entre, side dish, or dessert, not just a bag of potato chips) takes $2 off the $7 entry fee.

78th Annual Boat, RV & Outdoors Show

The 78th Annual Chicago Boat, RV & Outdoors Show will be held at McCormick place through Sunday, January 20. The show features over 600 boats, 200 RVs, marine accessories and outfitters and offers a variety of hands-on interactive activities, including a 170 ft indoor river allowing visitors to board a canoe, electric boat or kayak to get the feeling of traveling down a river. Numerous prizes and giveaways will be awarded each day. Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for those 13-15 years of age, and free for children 12 and under. Call 312-946-6272 for more information.

Chili Fest @ The Chopping Block

The winter months can be down right cold, so that's why we have chili! Learn how to make four different kinds of chili at this Chopping Block demonstration class. The chili's- White Turkey Chili; Chile con Carne; Veggie Black Bean Chipotle Chili; Chili with Poblanos and Pozole, are a sure thing to get your furnace working for the cold months ahead. 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost is $40.
