Sci-Fi Spectacular @ The Music Box Theater

Grab your tin foil hats and an adequate supply of popcorn because the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Avenue, 773-871-6604) has just given you the perfect reason to sit on your butt all day long. They’re hosting a 12 hour long Sci-Fi Spectacular presented with Movieside starting at noon on May 10th. Actress Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000, Rock ‘N’ Roll High School) will join the festivities which will include dealer tables, vintage trailers, contests, Cold War paranoia, and (we hope) a hovercraft race or two. VHS Or Beta, Tiger City At Empty Bottle

Disco, New-Wave and Glam will all be in full effect tonight at the Empty Bottle. VHS or Beta's catchy tunes will get the dancefloor jumping and Tigercity's energy will do the same. Their smooth as silk sound is both sweet and juicy. There's also an after-party with the VHS or Beta guys at Sonotheque.

2nd Annual Dance Derby Fundraiser @ Hideout

The Chicago Short Film Brigade is holding a dance fundraiser at Hideout to raise funds for its annual award and quarterly show. Live music as well as DJs spinning funk, disco and pop will get you primed to win grand prize in the dance contest - if you can impress the Derby judges with your skills, you'll walk away with a pair of custom-designed Chuck Taylors, a Film Brigade season pass and other prizes. $10 donation at the door. 10pm. 1354 W. Russian Circles @ Subterranean

Local instrumental post-rock/math-metal trio Russian Circles play the Sub-T tonight in a headlining set. The band is kicking off a nationwide tour to promote the release of its brand new CD, Stations. Tonight's show will be the official record-release party for Stations, and is sponsored by Alarm magazine. Tight Phantomz and Call Me Lightning play on the supporting bill. Mama Said Knock You Out @ The Stadium

It's the semi-finals of the Windy City Rollers Women's Flat Track Roller Derby League! The Manic Attackers will do battle with the Double Crossers, while Hell's Bells will take on The Fury at The Stadium, 1909 S. Laramie in Cicero at 6 p.m. The winners advance to the Ivy King Cup Championship. Tickets are available on the Windy City Rollers website. Fans can also catch the Party Bus to the match and back at the Cobra Lounge at 3 p.m.

The Schadenfreude Rent Party @ Empty Bottle

Join Schadenfreude in celebrating their 10th year anniversary in Chicago with a series of shows at Chicago neighborhood dive bars. This week they go hipster and rock out the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. This week's show features Claudia Wallace (Second City), Ken Barnard (Stand-up), Yuri Lane (beatbox) and Inda Craig-Galvan (kevINda) -- plus the Blue Ribbon Glee Club follow. 8pm, $10, 21+.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Cubs @ Wrigley Field

The first-place Diamondbacks hit town to take on the Cubs, who as of this writing have lost four of their last seven. Gametime Saturday is 2:40 p.m. at Wrigley Field, 1-6- W. Addison, with another game set for Sunday at 1:20 p.m.

Chicago Public Radio Talent Show

Presented by Vocalo and Chicago Pubic Radio, this talent show features user uploaded content (video/audio) to the Vocalo site. Tonight the finalists (including Jessica Hardy of Avant/Chicago and the Revelettes) perform their pieces live. The show takes place at 7 p.m. at the Chicago Center For The Performing Arts.
