Parkways Foundation @ Buckingham Fountain

Buckingham Fountain closes for the season on Tuesday, Sept. 2, for much needed renovation. The Parkways Foundation, which raises private funds for projects within the Chicago Park District, is launching its public campaign to raise $5 million for the restoration project at the fountain today from 10:30am to 1pm. Fountain visitors will receive complimentary treats courtesy of Caffe Rom, and can purchase an exclusive Buckingham Fountain t-shirt with all proceeds going toward the renovation.

African Festival for the Arts

The African Festival for the Arts runs Friday through Monday at 5100 S. Cottage Grove with loads of music, art, food and culture. Tickets are $10 per day, with weekend passes available for $30. Today's musical lineup is below.

WOOGMS Labor Day Parade

Grab your American flag and join the Wellington-Oakdale Old Glory Marching Society for their annual do-it-yourself Labor Day Parade. The action kicks off on Pine Grove and Wellington in East Lakeview at 11am and ends up on the lawn of St. Joseph's Hospital, with a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers.
