Andersonville Arts Weekend continues today with a wide range of exhibits, events and performances from 10am to late night, including paintings at the Edgewater Historical Society, dance lessons at the Joel Hall Dance Center, and burlesque at Mary's Attic. Join Check, Please! host Alpana Singh for a tasting of Gallo wines, followed by a performance of The House Theatre's Dave DaVinci Saves The Universe -- all to benefit On The House, an outreach program that works with kids from disadvantaged schools to experience theatre. Tickets are $75.
Indie in the Windy City Handcrafted Market runs from 10am to 4pm at "The Friendly Towers," 920 W. Wilson Ave. More than 30 vendors offering handmade jewelry, clothing, accessories, plush, knit, paper goods. Admission is free.
If you've got enough energy to drive 150 miles from the city to Red Horse Ranch in Fennville, MI for Porkapalooza, a noon to midnight festival of meaty gluttony, you should: the event will also have beer, wine, entertainment, and it benefits the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance. Admission $10-40.
Today's class (11am-2pm) will teach how you can make Italian on only a few ingredients. Windy City Story Slam, the brainchild of local writer Bill Hillmann, features artists, musicians and slammers of all ages and backgrounds from around Chicago. The Newberry Library is holding their second Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Symposium. The symposium will encourage the use of the Newberry's collection of Doyle's written works and memorabilia and will feature collectors and experts discussing Doyle's favorite book and best known work.
