World Kitchen: Election Night @ Gallery 37

Today's class (11am-2pm) will get you in the mood for making tasty eats while watching November 4th's election returns. "Election Night" is offered as part of the World Kitchen learning series offered by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and will be held at the Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, 66 E. Randolph Street. Admission is $30 and preregistration is required. Please wear non-skid shoes and bring your apron!

U of C Humanities Day

The University of Chicago celebrates literature, language, religion, history, philosophy, music, art and drama in their 30th annual Humanities Day. Professor of English Jacqueline Goldsby will present the keynote address, "A Salon for the Masses: Black Chicago's Book Review and Lecture Forum, 1933-53." Programs include "Beowulf and its World," "What is Civic Knowledge?" "Who was Socrates and What Did He Do?" and much more. The entire day is free of charge, running from 9:30am-4:30pm at various buildings on the U of C campus. Reservations are recommended to ensure that you have a seat at the session of your choice. Matthew Hainsby joined in with his bass in 2004 and drummer Lee Adams has joined this year. Their second album, Transparent Things was released in 2006/07, and their third, Lightbulbs, will be out later this year.

Disruptions: The Political in Art Now @ MCA Chicago

This Country's F$cked @ Lakeshore Theater

Schadenfreude and Gayco team up to present This Country's F$cked, the first annual political comedy festival, sponsored by the Crossroads Foundation and Lakeshore Theater. The comedy show will feature Ken Barnard (Stand-up), Susan Messing (Annoyance), Mike and Duane (musical comedy), Matthew Hollis and the Power of Cheer, the Blue Ribbon Glee Club plus many, many more. This show will include live (on tape) performances from Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Reverend Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama. There will be two shows tonight, at 8pm and 11pm, at the Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway. DJ Jesse De La Pena will spin after the 11pm show. Tickets are $20.

Chicago International Film Festival

The Chicago International Film Festival runs until October 29 at several theaters across the city. Box office is at the AMC River East 21 at Illinois & Fairbanks and the AMC at 600 North Michigan; you can also buy tickets online.

Windy City Rollers Debut at UIC Pavilion

The WCR All-Stars faceoff against the number 4 team in the nation, the Carolina Rollergirls, who come to claim revenge after Chicago beat them a few weeks back at the Regional Tournament in Madison.
