The Woodbox Gang plays the House of Blues, 329 N. Dearborn, tonight at 10pm. $10.The band will be masquerading as the Misfits, performing a 90-minute set of horror-punk classics from the 1977-83 era of the Misfits. Anyone wearing a costume representing a character from any songs by The Misfits OR The Woodbox Gang will receive a free gift from the band. Tickets available through Ticketmaster.
Put on your best "Rat"-themed costume and head to Boystown for the 12th Annual Northalsted Halloween Parade. The parade kicks off at Melrose and Halsted at 7pm, travels north on Halsted to Brompton, and turns around to end at Halsted and Roscoe. If you want to compete in the costume contest and win cash and prizes, register at Spin (on the corner of Belmont and Halsted) from 5:30-6:45pm. Children, adults, pets, and groups are encouraged to participate. Free.
For the ninth year running, the Empty Bottle and local math-wave wags Detholz! host their Halloween "Jukebox Of The Dead" -- an evening when, according to one member of the band, "the 80's tunes you love to hate come back in some sort of twisted, decaying fashion." As usual, there's a theme for the evening; but the Detholz! dudes are being characteristically cryptic about what it'll be this time around. Aleks & The Drummer open, and mash-up maestros Hood Internet will be on hand to spin tunes throughout the evening. It all gets underway at 10 PM. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 the night of. 1035 N. Silvie's Lounge, 1902 W. Irving Park Rd., hosts a Rock N' Roll Masquerade with the infamous Poncey Lads and a bunch of other local acts. Each half-hour a different band will take the stage in tribute to a real or imagined all-time great, leading up to a full set by the Lads at midnight. Doors open at 8pm, show's over at 2am. Admission is $10 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Intonation Music Workshop, a non-profit band based after-school music program for city kids.
Chances are you caught the explosive set that King Khan & the Shrines whipped up at the Pitchfork Festival this past summer. As it turns out, King Khan is returning to Chicago for Halloween; this time as part of his two-man outfit King Khan & BBQ Show at the Bottom Lounge this evening. Khan'll be headlining on a garage-heavy billing that also features The Goblins, CoCoCOMA, and Women. The show starts at 9 PM, and is ages 18 and up. If you're looking to get bump on tonight and your costume can hold up to a night of vigorous dancing, then Smart Bar has you for covered for this year's Halloween bash. Breakout Baltimore DJ and producer Blaqstarr will be in town to spin a special headlining set at Smart Bar this evening. Joining him on the bill are fellow Mad Decent affiliates South Rakkas Crew, with the duo of Rob Threezy and Charlie Glitch getting things started. Doors open at 10 PM.
