Former Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard will be at Evanston's Now We're Cooking (1601 Payne) tonight at 6:30pm for a holiday cooking demo. She'll cook, you'll eat. Admission is $50 ($25 for students, school ID required) includes demonstration, tasting, wine and question-and-answer session. Email to RSVP (required).
Bookslut presents Jonathan Ames as part of their Reading Series, author of such books as What's Not To Love? and the graphic novel The Alcoholic. The reading happens tonight, 7:30pm, at Hopleaf (5148 N. Clark) in their upstairs space. The event is free and open to the public.
Land of the Sweets: The Burlesque Nutcracker makes its Chicago debut tonight and tomorrow at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave. The show is a "full-blown professional production of the holiday classic -- rendered in 1930s burlesque cabaret style" by professional burlesque dancers. There are two shows each night, at 7:30pm and 10pm; tickets are $30 in advance. 18 and over.
Pandora (the internet radio that literally caters to you) founder Tim Westergren comes to the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue to chat about the Pandora application for iPhone. He will also talk about the history of Pandora, the ever-expanding Music Genome Project and answer any questions you might have. 679 N. Michigan Ave. 7pm. Free. Just show up, no need to rsvp.
Head to Plan B, 1635 N. Damen, tonight from 7pm to 10pm for a fundraiser for Child's Play, a charity that donates videogames and other toys to children's hospitals. There will be an open bar, plus a gaming contest (MK vs. DC, Rock Band, Guitar Hero or some other good drunk-gaming option) and a raffle.
