Belles and Whistles @ Music Box Theatre

The Music Box Theatre presents Michelle "Toots" L'Amour and her Chicago Starlets in Belles and Whistles, a Valentine's Day themed burlesque show. Dancing, music and short films will be presented in the late night program. Belles and Whistles happens tonight and tomorrow night at the Music Box. Doors open at 11:30pm, show starts at midnight. D.Rider / Cheer-Accident @ The Hideout

Tonight's show at the Hideout features a record-release party and performance from the local trio D. Rider. The group is the latest musical incarnation of frontman Todd Rittmann from '90s avant-rock misfits U.S. Maple, and their debut album is scheduled to drop via the Tizona label on the 17th. This makes for a dual record-release affair, seeing that Cheer-Accident (one of Rittmann's other current outfits) also has a new album coming out and are headlining for tonight's show. A Conversation with Nina Berman

The Illinois Humanities Council is sponsoring a lunchtime interview with documentary photographer Nina Berman at Roosevelt University's Gage Gallery (18 S Michigan Ave). Berman's exhibit "Homeland - Photos by Nina Berman" is running at the gallery. Teri Boyd, photo editor of the City 2000 project, will conduct the interview. The event runs from noon-1:30pm and is free, but reservations are required and can be made online, by e-mailing events@prairie.org, or calling 312-422-5580.


Chicago Arts District 2nd Fridays

Every second Friday of the month the more than 100 artists and 35 galleries of the Chicago Arts District (formerly known as Pilsen East) open their doors to the public to showcase work from Chicago and beyond. Many of the Pilsen neighborhood galleries are artist-owned, so Gallery Night is an excellent opportunity to get information about the works from their source. Ig Nobel Prize Discussion

Marc Abrahams brings Improbable Research and its Ig Nobel Prize to Chicago for the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science tonight from 8pm to 10pm. Abrahams will review the past year's improbable research and Ig Nobel winners, and several Ig Nobel winners will try to explain what they did and why they did it. The talk takes place in the Moulin Rouge Room of the Fairmont Hotel, 200 N. Columbus Dr. Admission is free, but space is limited.

Puppy Love @ Willow

Hosted by Amy Doehla of Willow and curated by Amy Rowan of Art School Girl, the Puppy Love art show promises one-of-a-kind pieces from over a dozen Chicagoland artists and designers. Besides offering perfect last minute Valentine's Day gifts, proceeds from the art show benefit Chicago Canine Rescue. The 3-hour event starts at 6pm tonight at Willow (908 N. Damen Ave).
