Black Dice @ Empty Bottle

Brooklynite experimental outfit Black Dice headline at the Bottle this evening. They're touring to support their new album REPO and will be appearing with Ann Arbor noise-rock Wolf Eyes, who'll be supporting in the opening slot. Since both groups have frequently collaborated together (both live and in the studio) in recent years, maybe some inter-group co-opery can be expected at tonight's show. Doors open at 9:30pm and admissionis $12. 1035 N. Western.

Stuart Dybek @ U of C

Stuart Dybek (I Sailed With Magellan, The Coast of Chicago) will be at the University of Chicago to present a lecture on his work. "Indispensable Pests: Media in Democracy"

Former Chicago Tribune Editorial Page Editor Don Wycliff gives a lecture titled "Indispensable Pests: Media in Democracy" as part of East-West University's "East-West Perspectives" lecture series tonight in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at 816 S. Michigan Ave. There's a reception at 6:30pm; the lecture begins at 7pm. Free.

Free Admission to the New Modern Wing @ Art Institute/Depository Food Drive

From May 16-22, you can visit the newly opened Modern Wing of the Art Institute (111 S. Michigan Ave) for free. For the $12-18 that you're saving in admission, help out the hungry in Chicago by bringing a donation for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, who will be accepting non-perishable items at food collection sites that will be located on the Michigan Avenue and the Monroe Street sides of the building.

From Recipe to Reality @ Wright College

Lokua Kanza @ Old Town School of Folk Music

Tonight, Congolese singer, songwriter and composer Lokua Kanza plays at the Old Town School of Folk Music's Gary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall (4544 N. Lincoln Ave.). Kanza has worked and performed with the top names in the business such as Papa Wemba, Manu Dibango, Youssou N'Dour, and Angelique Kidjo to name a few. Lokua's music incorporates many natural sounds from the rainforest including the symphonic chants of the pygmies. Details online. FREE ($5 suggested donation) Box office: (773) 728-6000. Split Pillow's Chicago360 @ Music Box

Split Pillow will premiere its fourth annual Chicago360 documentary series. The Chicago-centric documentary brings together five filmmakers to interpret this year's theme of "PLAY": a unique glimpse into how some Chicagoans choose to spend their time while they're off the clock.
