Mouthwatering Memorial Day Grilling Class @ Fox & Obel

Learn how to rock out your Memorial Day grillfest at Fox & Obel, 401 East Illinois. From 6-7:30pm you will be walked through how to make a menu for the holiday. Admission is $35; reservations required.

Scatteredtrees @ Bottom Lounge

Local five-piece group Scatteredtrees gained momentum after appearing on a Starbuck's mix CD. They're no Bon Iver, but should win over some fans with their low-key acoustic dexterity and lead vocalist Nate Eiesland's crooning. Also playing are Beckon Q and Kevin Andrew Prchal. Tickets are $12 and show starts at 8:00pm. 1375 W. Lake. 18+

Nyco @ Beat Kitchen

Nyco's breezy pop sounds just like the nondescript James Blunt-sounding tunes you hear on 101.9 while sitting in traffic. You may not remember what the song was called, but you'll be using the steering wheel for a bongo and the melody will be stuck in your head all the way to work. Also playing are Mike Maimone and The Saturn Project. Tickets are $8 and show starts at 8:30pm. 2100 W. Belmont. 773-281-4444. 21+

Local H @ Double Door

Local alternative powerhouse Local H play the Double Door tonight as part of the club's 15th Anniversary celebration. The duo released their latest album, 12 Angry Months (a collection of break-up songs), last year. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $15. 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. 21+

Information Superhighway @ Schubas

Information Superhighway headlines a night of prog-rock at Schubas tonight. Opening is District 97, whose mixture of bleating prog-rock and nu-metal sounds a bit like a slowed-down Rush--as if they moved into a retirement home and smoked some pot. If District 97 were a neighborhood, it would definitely be a bad one. Think roving packs of rabid dogs, boarded up houses, and tumbleweed. Also playing is Vertikal. Tickets are $8 and show starts at 9:00pm. 3159 N. Southport. 773.525.2508.

Free Admission to the New Modern Wing @ Art Institute/Depository Food Drive

From May 16-22, you can visit the newly opened Modern Wing of the Art Institute (111 S. Michigan Ave) for free. For the $12-18 that you're saving in admission, help out the hungry in Chicago by bringing a donation for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, who will be accepting non-perishable items at food collection sites that will be located on the Michigan Avenue and the Monroe Street sides of the building.

Family Secrets Reading

Author Jeff Coen reads from his book, Family Secrets: The Case That Crippled the Chicago Mob, along with a Q&A and book-signing tonight at 7:30pm at the Webster Place Barnes & Noble, 1441 W. Webster Ave. Free. Read GB politics editor Ramsin Canon's review of the book in Book Club.

Fieldtrips Dance Performance Marathon @ Hamlin Park Fieldhouse

The Field Chicago and Chicago Moving Co. present the 14th annual Fieldtrips Performance Marathon tonight and tomorrow night. Tonight, come check out performances by Antibody Dance, Karla Beltchenko, Dim Sum Dance, Molly Jaeger, Kris Larsen & Leslie Stevenson, Solo Movement Collective, and Jessica Wright. Tomorrow there's a whole new batch of companies to sample. You just might find your new favorite Chicago dance company to follow!

7:30pm at the Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater, 3035 N. Hoyne. Tickets are $15. For info and reservations, call (804) 873-1018.

Found Magazine's Denim & Diamonds Tour

Found Magazine's Davy and Peter Rothbart will be joined by sword swallower Brett Loudermilk, NYC's Story Pirates, The Watson Twins and other special guests for a reading in support of Requiem for a Paper Bag, a collection of stories about lost and found items from around the world, tonight at 8pm at the Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway. Tickets are $20, 21 and over.

Eric Bogosian @ Harold Washington Library Center

Award-winning renaissance-man Eric Bogosian participates in Writers on the Record with Victoria Lautman tonight to chat about his latest novel, Perforated Heart. The free, hour-long interview starts taping at 6pm in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center (400 S. State St). The interview will be broadcast on 98.7WFMT radio at noon on Sunday, May 24th. No reservations required, seating is on a first-come basis.
