Jazz at the Library: The Real Benny Goodman Story

In honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth in Chicago on May 30, 1909, this program celebrates the life and career of the great Benny Goodman. Music associated with Goodman, who was known as 'The King of Swing,' will be performed live by The Alan Gresik Swing Shift Orchestra. 12:15pm. A Fairyland of Violence @ DePaul

Heartland Alliance and DePaul University present A Fairyland of Violence: Stories of Violence Through the Eyes of Refugee Youth, a documentary about the experiences of refugees fleeing violence in their home countries, only to find violence in their new homes in America. The film will be screened this evening at DePaul's Monroe Hall at 2312 N. Clifton. There will be an opening reception before the film, and a panel discussion with the filmmakers afterward. BROADZILLA! The Burlesque Beast @ Exit

The Vixens of Vaudezilla perform two free burlesque shows tonight Friday May 29th for your viewing pleasure. BROADZILLA! Burnham, Chicago, and Beyond: Politics, Planning, and the Progressive Era City

The Chicago Architecture Foundation and DePaul University sponsor this two-day symposium on the Burnham Plan. Participants will be able to analyze the conditions that gave rise to the plan and its impact not only in Chicago, but also in other locations. Today's session runs from 2-5 PM. $55, $45 for members of the CAF, $20 non-DePaul students.
