The Mary-Arrchie Theatre company has a new glimmer of hope for our cynical world with the Midwest debut of Kevin Huff's play Mud People, opening tonight at 8 pm. Set in a small-town diner in the middle of rural town USA, Mud People tells a story of a disparaged community whose life is turned around when a mysterious stranger enters their lives. Huff's work has played elsewhere in Chicago including the Steppenwolf, LiveBait, and Chicago Dramatists. The play itself has won numerous awards, including an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship for playwriting.
Mud People runs through July 12th from Thursday through Sunday at Angel Island (735 W. Sheridan Rd.). Tickets are $18 for the opening show tonight, and admission for future shows ranges from $18-22. Reservations can be made by calling (773) 459-4721.
Stop by the Blue Bayou - 3734 N Southport Ave; (773) 871-3300- today for some good old fashion burlesque served bar top. The pasties start twirling at 10pm sharp, so get there early for a good seat. Presented by Vaudezilla, the free show includes a rotating schedule of some of Chicago's favorite bawdy babes including Red Hot Annie, Wham Bam Pam, and Donna Touch. Local First Chicago holds its first annual fundraiser at Uncommon Ground, 1401 W. Devon Ave., tonight from 6pm to 9pm. Enjoy complimentary food and desserts, network, and bid on silent auction items. Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door. 21+

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) performs five works by legendary modern classical composer Iannis Xenakis at the Museum of Contemporary Art (220 East Chicago Avenue,), tonight at 7:30pm. Tickets $25. Pieces include "Psappha," "Echange," "Akanthos," "Palimpsest," and a rare performance of his final composition, "O-Mega." More information at the MCA web site and in Transmission.
