The Gene Siskel Film Center proudly presents the return of Nina Paley's animated film Sita Sings The Blues, a film much championed by Roger Ebert, among others. What is our National Holiday without a Hot Dog eating contest? Purgatory Pizza (3415 N. Clark St) is hosting it's first annual Fourth of July unofficial Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Festivities kick off at 1pm sharp, and cost $5 to enter. Competitors must be entered by noon. You can register ahead of time by emailing dom@purgatorychicago.com or via phone at (773) 975-6677.

Southern rockers the Drive-By Truckers play a free show in Grant Park at the Taste of Chicago. They are listed on the bill with venerable Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy, Booker T (of the MG's), and Guster, if you're into that sort of thing. Admission FREE, starts at 3pm.
Live it up at Give Peace a Dance, a conscious, alcohol-free dance party for ages 18+ at The ManKind Project (1900 W. Fulton).
