Facets Night School: God Told Me To

Facets Multimedia presents the second session of Facets Night School, midnight screenings of classic and cult movies with discussions about each film. Tonight's film is Larry Cohen's 1976 thriller God Told Me To, with Tony Lo Bianco as a NYC cop investigating apparently divinely-inspired killings (and featuring a bit part by Andy Kaufman). Facets employee Bruce Neal will lead a post-screening discussion. The movie screens tonight at midnight, and tickets are only $5 (available through Ticketweb). Facets: 1517 W. Fullerton.

Taste of Wisconsin @ Kenosha Harbor

If you love the foodie mecca that is Kenosha, Wisconsin (I'm not lying), you can take the Metra UP North line to the city's harbor for the free Taste of Wisconsin, which runs Saturday (11am-10pm) and Sunday (11am-6pm) at Kenosha's harbor, 6th Avenue and 54th Street. Food, music, and the relief that you're nowhere near Taste of Chicago is on the bill. Afterward you should go to Tenuta's; you'll thank me later.

Derby Lite Demo Day

Want to give roller derby a spin? The women of Derby Lite (motto: For Women Old Enough to Know Better) will be starting a fall league with the Park Districts of Forest Park, Oak Park and River Forest, but are having this free preview practice for women who are curious to try without fully committing to the league. It takes place at the outdoor skating rink in Forest Park (7501 Harrison) from noon-2 PM. Bring your own helmet, but you can borrow the rest of the equipment for free. Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival

The Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival runs Friday through Sunday along Milwaukee Avenue between California and Ridgeway avenues, centered on the Logan Square Centennial Monument. The free street fair features over 150 artists in over 20 open galleries, diverse food & drink options, local vendors, a free shuttle and multiple live music stages. Here's today's music schedule:

Ukulele Cabaret @ Silvies

Ukulele Cabaret, an evening of uke-centric performances, happens tonight at Silvie's Lounge (1902 W. Irving Park Road) at 9pm. The Astronomer w/Joe Meno @ Old Town School of Folk Music

Join a host of local authors, local music and local artists for a night of readings and musical performances at the Old Town School of Folk Music. The literary lineup includes Joe Meno (The Great Perhaps), Megan Stielstra, Billy Lombardo (How to Hold a Woman) and Stephanie Kuehnert (Ballads of Suburbia), with musical guests The Astronomer and Canasta, and art by Jay Ryan and Todd Baxter. 8pm in the Gary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall, 4544 N. Grand Prix Professional Drift

Like to watch cars go sideways? Check'em out at Soldier Field today when the D1 Grand Prix professional drift car hits town. Gates open at 2pm, with competition running till 10pm. In addition to the drifting, Hey Champ and Chain Smokers perform. Tickets are $25 to $55.

Steven Soderbergh's Bubble @ Film Center

Yourself and the Air @ Subterranean

A young group from Chicago, Yourself and the Air sound surprisingly seasoned considering none of them are classically trained musicians. Their songs hold an indie-rock hopefulness and innocence. Open Streets Boulevard Tour @ Logan Square

Following its successful 2008 program, the Active Transportation Alliance of Chicago is bringing back its Open Streets Sunday boulevard tour today from 8:30am to 2pm. The event this year combines last year's two days into one long, eight-mile avenue of bicycling, dancing, walking, and other activities. The route spans from Logan Square (Kedzie Boulevard at Logan Boulevard) to Little Village, and passes through Humboldt Park, North Lawndale and Garfield Park. Stations and kiosks throughout the route will feature performances, children activities, art, and workout demonstrations. Free.

Girls Rock! Camp Kick Off Party and BBQ @ The Hideout

Girls Rock! Chicago is hosting an all-ages show and BBQ today at The Hideout featuring local favorites 8 Inch Betsy, Lemmy Caution, Glass Bricks, Youth Dekay and the Degenerettes from Baltimore. Also performing will be bands from this year's Ladies Rock Camp: Marcia Marcia Marshmallow, Twisted Midnight, the Happy Campers and The Enablers. Girls Rock! is a non-profit dedicated to fostering girls' creative expression, poistive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music by providing music education programs. 1354 W. Movies in the Park: Calle 54 @ Humboldt Park Boathouse
