Silent Summer Film Festival: Piccadilly

The Silent Film Society of Chicago's Silent Film Festival continues this evening with a screening of the 1929 film Piccadilly, starring Anna May Wong. The screening happens tonight at 8pm at the Portage Theater (4050 N. Milwaukee) and will feature live organ accompaniment. Tickets are $12 at the door. For more information call (773)736-4050.

The Fest for Beatles Fans

The annual Fest for Beatles Fans begins this evening at 5pm at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare (9300 West Bryn Mawr Avenue, Rosemont) and runs through Sunday the 16th. Among the events planned for this year's Fest: a sneak preview of the Beatles Rock Band; a battle of the Beatles bands; a marketplace and auction for various Beatles memorabilia; and an attempt on Sunday to assemble the largest ukulele ensemble on stage! Mid-American Bonsai Exhibition @ Chicago Botanical Garden

Mr. Miyagi will be proud of you for attending the 33rd annual Mid-America Bonsai Exhibition at the Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road in Glencoe today from 9am-5pm. You can buy them, look at them, take a workshop (registration required), or take a walk around the Botanical Garden (which is amazing, by the way). Admission is free; parking is $20 per car.

Windy City Rib Fest @ Union Park

Music and ribs are on the bill for the first annual Windy City RIb Fest, which kicks off tonight at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St. Admission $7. Event runs 5-10pm.

Labfest! Calumet Park

Invent the Future Youth Workshop @ DePaul

How should the region plan for the year 2040? This summer, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) will hold dozens of free public workshops called GO TO 2040 "Invent the Future". Information you contribute at these meetings will help CMAP develop a preferred scenario that will best reflect the region's desired future. Today’s special youth workshop takes place from noon-4pm at the DePaul University's College of Digital Media, 243 S. Wabash, Room 924, Chicago.
