Comedy at Cole's

Finally, an open mic smack in the middle of Logan Square -- where all the unemployed stand-ups live. Comedians Cameron Esposito and Adam Burke share hosting duties at Cole's Comedy Open Mic, a good venue for trying out new material and a great place for first-timers to give it a go. It's free and goes down tonight and every Wednesday at 9pm. Cole's, by the way, is a great new drinking spot at 2338 North Milwaukee with a bang-up staff and $2 PBRs. The website's in progress, but you can check out the reviews -- like "Cole's is my Moe's." -- here.

Frank Rosaly @ The Hideout

Free jazz drummer Frank Rosaly kicks off his solo tour tonight at The Hideout with a record release concert for his new album Milkwork (Contraphonic/Molk Records). He will join fellow Oxbow musicians for Set II. Josh Abrams spins between sets. $7. 9:30pm. 1354 W. Wabansia. 21+

Audrey Niffenegger @ Swedish American Museum

Presented by Women and Children First, Audrey Niffenegger will be at the Swedish American Museum to read from and discuss her new novel, Her Fearful Symmetry. This event is ticketed, so you must call the store first to reserve your spot. 7:30pm at 5211 N. Clark St. Call 773-769-9299 for reservations and information.

Passion Pit @ Logan Square Auditorium

Bands might be losing their buzz swifter than a Kanye interruption, but a potential audience member has to weigh the pros and cons of letting the buzz waves determine their lifestyle. The question is: should you go see Passion Pit for free? On the one hand, every trixie and their mother who's gotten a taste of the band on XRT will be in attendance wearing ironic Cubs T-shirts and pink baseball caps. Hipsters have an irrational fear that Clayton Hauck or the Cobrasnake will pop out at any moment and photograph them as one of these cougars hits on them, or a brah knocks them back with a mighty chest bump. Back to reality though folks. Yes, you might see some people who aren't in a quarter-life crisis, and maybe there will be a lot of them (tickets are being provided solely through XRT VIP points). If you can get your mangy mop-topped brain around the horrors of corporate sponsorship (yes, it's brought to you by Bud Light) and just want a chance to see a pretty decent band play some pretty decent songs in a not-too-big venue, check XRT's giveaway page for details on how to get a ticket. Show starts at 8PM, 21+ only.

Veggie Bingo @ Hideout

If you liked the wildly successful Soup and Bread series at the Hideout from earlier this year, then you'll love Veggie Bingo, which brings together bingo and food--a weekly event where participants play the venerable old-school game and win locally made or grown prizes such as a jar of honey, a bar of soap...and the grand prize, a box of produce from Irv and Shelley's. The event is tonight from 6-8pm at the Hideout, 1354 West Wabansia; cards are $1 each (six for $5) and can be purchased on-site. Hot dogs and tofu pups will be served, so all your early evening needs will be met. All proceeds benefit NeighborSpace.

Moby @ The Vic

As we mentioned over in Transmission, Moby will be in town to play with a full band tonight at The Vic. The show starts at 7:30pm, and tickets are $34.

Inside the Chicago Machine @ UIC

Join former City Clerk James Laski for his lecture, "Inside the Chicago Machine," today from noon-1pm at UIC's Behavioral Science Building (1007 West Harrison Street), Room 140. Former Alderman and UIC Political Science Professor Dick Simpson will moderate. Lecture is part of UIC's "Future of Chicago" series. Free and open to the public.

Danny Ovanin @ Green City Market

Danny Ovanin of Glen Prairie will give a cooking demonstration today at 10:30am at the Green City Market, Stockton and LaSalle Drives.
