Facets Night School: The Devil's Backbone

Facets Cinematheque continues its Night School screenings in October with screenings of classic horror films Tonight's film is Guillermo del Toro's 2001 film The Devil's Backbone and includes a pre-screening lecture and Q&A session after the film. World Kitchen Learning Series: Meet the New Italians

You'll learn that Italian food is red and green--green with kale and other leafy plants at the "Meet the New Italians" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series. Class runs 6-8:30pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30, and registration is required.

You Weren't There: A History of Chicago Punk 1977-1984 screening @ Portage Theater

This 2007 documentary is finally making the rounds in town. A retrospective on punk rock in Chicago from 1977-1984, the film features bands such as Naked Raygun, Rights of the Accused, the Effigies, Big Black and Strike Under. Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee, Chicago. (773) 736-4050. 7pm.

Trunk Show Opening @ Barbara & Barbara Gallery

Trunk Show: Luggage, Travel & Place opens tonight from 7-10pm at Barbara & Barbara Gallery, 1021 North Western Ave. The group show includes nearly 20 artists, including Pete Cuba, Julia Hendrickson, Scott Reinhard, David Schalliol, Chris Sykora and Hannah Zurko. Opening night music will be provided by Ben Bontempo, Julia Hendrickson & Marie Barker (with Chris Gingrich), Anna Vogelzang and Vintage Gramma. The show runs from October 23 until November 17.

Victoria's Secret Open Casting Call @ The W Lakeshore

Victoria's Secret brings it's model search to The W Lakeshore today. Ladies can compete to be one of ten finalists flown to New York City for "Angel Boot Camp". The winner, to be chosen by the public, will walk the runway in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on December 1st. All contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 30, at least 5 feet 8 inches tall, and a legal resident of the United States. The casting call is from 8am to 10am at The W Lakeshore, 644 N. The Lawrence Arms 10th Anniversary Show @ The Metro

Described by Alternative Press as "one of the best honest-to-God punk-rock bands around today" Chicago's Lawrence Arms celebrates their birthday today at The Metro (3730 N. Clark St). The all-ages early show features openers The Menzingers, La Plebe and Mike Park. Tickets are $16. Doors open at 5:30pm, show rocks at 6.
