As part of World Music Wednesdays, the Old Town School of Folk Music presents Los Cojolites, a collective of Mexican soneros who live and work together in Jaltipan, Veracruz, Mexico. World Music Wednesdays are free, ticketed events, with a suggested $5 donation. The artists will also be at the Old Town School for a workshop on Thursday evening. Tonight at 6pm in the School of the Art Institute's Ballroom (112 S. Michigan Avenue) NASA Astronaut John Grunsfeld will describe the adventures of working on orbit on the Hubble Space Telescope and the exciting scientific results the new instruments provide. There will be a question and answer session after the talk.

Background: Last may, the Hubble Space Telescope's last servicing mission successfully upgraded and repaired the telescope to include new cameras and instruments. During the 12 day mission on orbit, astronauts on board space shuttle Atlantis performed five spacewalks to complete the upgrades so the telescope could begin a new journey of discovery.
The SAMFund, a non-profit organization that helps young adults recovering from cancer, comes to Joe's Bar on Weed Street to put on a fund-raising bags tournament tonight titled "Cornhole for Cancer". Tickets are $35 each and include an entry into the tournament and open bar. All proceeds will benefit The SAMFund, providing direct support to young adults moving forward with their lives after cancer treatment. All but $20 per ticket is fully tax-deductible, and all donations in excess of $35 per ticket are 100% tax deductible. Joe's is located at 940 W. Weed St., Chicago and the event runs from 7pm-10pm.
Last-minute Halloween shoppers could benefit when the Joffrey Ballet opens their costume vault to the public on Wednesday, October 28. The sale, the first of its kind for Joffrey, will feature "more than 200 one of a kind Joffrey costumes plus clothing and accessories from the closets of Chicago fashionistas".
