Learn how to cook with fall fruits, from the standard apple to the exotic quince, at the "Fall Festival of Fruits" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series. Class runs 6-8:30pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30, and registration is required.
David Sax, author of "Save the Deli: In Search of Perfect Pastrami, Crusty Rye, and the Heart of Jewish Delicatessen," will give a free talk about his book tonight at 6pm at Manny's, 1141 South Jefferson.
BoyGirlBoyGirl, Beau O'Reilly & The Crooked Mouth String Band and John Szymanski perform as part of Cabaret Oobleck, a showcase of the theater company's regulars, irregulars and friends. Hosted by BoyGirlBoyGirl's David Kodeski, the show starts at 7:30pm in the downstairs lounge of The Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division. Restored art will be on display, there will be free food, and the view is supposed to be pretty amazing.

Corbett vs. Dempsey is hosting a day-long Halloween listening party, featuring hip and obscure, spooky tunes, painstakingly picked by the gallery. While you're there, check out Gina Litherland's 15 glorious new paintings, as well as Bart Johnson's haunted ink drawings. The gallery requests that you do not wear costumes to the party, which, I must admit, seems really lame. I say wear one anyway. The party is from 11-4pm. Corbett vs. Dempsey is located at 1120 N. Chicago artist and SAIC instructor Ken Fandell will be talking about his practice. His wall installation, "Days and Nights, Dawns and Dusks, North and South, East and West, Mine and Yours," will be up through October 31st.

Tribune journalist, radio host and author Rick Kogan and photographer Charles Osgood come to the Lincoln Belmont Branch Library to celebrate the release of their new book Sidewalks (Volume II). In the "500 Ways of Looking at Modern" performance, dancers perform choreography inspired by works in the Art Institute's collection. The event will convene in Fullerton Hall at 6 pm. Further information is on the AIC Calendar.
The Japan America Society welcomes George Mann, Director & Vice President of the Japanese Art Society of America, to show images and lecture on his personal collection of ukiyo-e art, which is the largest collection in the United States. The lecture will cover all major periods of ukiyo-e, ranging from the 1680's to the 1860's, and includes a Q&A period. It takes place tonight at The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Michael Moskow Auditorium (230 S. LaSalle St., 3rd floor) with registration starting at 6pm, followed by the presentation from 6:30-7:15, and Q&A until 7:30. This Artist at Work Forum kicks off a year long collaborative project, Studio Chicago, which focuses on the Artist's Studio through exhibitions, talks, publications, tours, and research. The Forum will introduce key components of Studio Chicago, and invite participation and suggestions from artists and the art-curious. Presenters will include representatives from the Museum of Contemporary Art, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, Hyde Park Art Center, and threewalls gallery.

The BCD Collaborative hosts another Atomic Sketch Event tonight from 6-9P at Wicker Park's Evil Olive (1551 W. Division St). The Halloween-themed event showcases established and emerging artists of various disciplines offering original finished works of art, design and illustration at at incredibly affordable prices. Plus, it's a great place to test your costume and get cheap drinks. In addition to the panel of artists including Ryan P Young, emmy star brown, [ad7m], Michael Kostal, rickikat, SUPAQOOT and artist sisters Nalleli and Sandra Sierra, practicing artists are encouraged to drop-in with their own materials to work on the sidelines and hang their pieces on the wall too. 21+
