Jens Lekman @ Empty Bottle
You could ring in the New Year with your roommate's lame girlfriend, or you could celebrate with everyone's favorite Swedish chamber pop singer. Jens Lekman, a quirky, hilarious, and insanely talented multi-instrumentalist begins his three-day residency at The Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Ave) tonight. Expect champagne, cute hipster girls, and plenty of Swedish beer (we can only hope). The festivities begin at 9:30pm and tickets are $30. Buy them here.
The Poseidon Adventure NYE Celebration @ Music Box
The Music Box Theatre and Hell In A Handbag Productions present the second annual New Year's Eve screening of The Poseidon Adventure. The show starts at 11pm, and the film begins at the appropriate time so that the New Year's celebration in the film coincides with the ringing in of 2010. Complimentary champagne toast and party favors will be included in the ticket price of $20. Tickets may be purchased in advance through Brown Paper Tickets. Too Much Light New Year's Eve @ Neo-Futurarium
The Neo-Futurists ring in the new year with a special New Year's Eve production of their long-running show Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind. The show starts at 11pm at the Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland at Foster), and when it finishes exactly 60 minutes later it's 2010! Doors open at 9:30pm for a reception with food provided by Whole Foods Sauganash. Tickets for the evening are $40 and can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets. White Mystery, Electric Six @ Double Door
Chicago's own White Mystery is playing at the Double Door tonight for their "2010: Odyssey 2 - The Year We Break Contracts" NYE party. Electric Six and Local H are also playing. Admission is a steep $65 but DD's website says there will be an open bar. The Double Door is located at 1520 N. Milwaukee. Doors open at 9pm, show starts at 9:30. The Fiery Furnaces @ Lincoln Hall
The Fiery Furnaces celebrate the new year with a new album and a performance at Lincoln Hall tonight. The show starts at 9pm and admission is $20, or $25 at the door. 21+. Lincoln Hall is located at 2424 N. Lincoln Ave.
New Year's Eve Ball @ Reversible Eye Gallery
The amazing Reversible Eye Gallery is hosting what will surely be a wild New Year's Eve party tonight. Aerial acrobatics from Aloft will be performed throughout the evening, and breakfast and mimosas will be served at 5am New Years Day. Bands performing includeSpires that in the Sunset Rise,Loto Ball Show,ReDeMer,Loto Ball Stupid Dans,The Funeral and the Twilight, and Grace Kulp. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door--not bad if you consider all the live entertainment and the free food and booze 'till dawn. The party starts at 9:30pm. Surly Beer Pairing Dinner @ Rodan
Say good-bye to 2009 with good beer! Rodan (1530 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is teaming up with Surly Brewing to offer a four-course dinner with beer pairings. This guided tour event will take place from 6-10 PM and is limited to 50 people. The dinner alone costs $35, plus $15 for the beer pairings. NYE Party @ Kaplan's Liquors
Each year Kaplan's Liquors hosts a New Years Eve party, and this year is no different, but they're expecting quite a crowd. There will be free Korean and Polish Food and a Youtube Karaoke performance with VJ Eddie Gymkata of the 80's performance art band, Members Only, among other things. Korean ladies, mutants, and sexy co-eds will be mingling with intellectuals, art fags, old men, and union guys. Should be pretty fun. Should be free, too, except for the booze. NYE Hot Yoga Class @ Bikram Yoga
This is the strangest way I found to ring in the New Year: sweating your ass off in spandex. It could be a great way to start fulfilling your resolutions.
