Get your biscuits to your neighborhood polling center! Today's the day to vote for who will duke it out this fall for Illinois governor and senator, as well as who is duking it out today for Cook County President, Attorney General, Congressperson, and a slew of other gigs. Voting ends at 7pm.
UIC hosts Re-Thinking Soup, a free weekly lunch where participants eat soup cooked from ingredients found at Hull House's urban gardens and chat about an assortment of topics. Event runs today from noon-1:30pm at Hull House, 800 South Halsted.
Guitarist Jeff Parker (Tortoise) leads improvised jazz trio The Cushicles every Tuesday at Rodan. Although the line-up will sometimes vary, the main group is rounded out by bassist Josh Abrams and fellow Tortoise member, drummer John Herndon. 10:30pm. 1530 N. Milwaukee Ave. No cover.
The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a free panel discussion of this year's Oscar-nominated movies. Scheduled to be in the panel: Michael Phillips from the Chicago Tribune; A.O. Scott from the New York Times; Janet Davies from ABC-7; and Hank Satrin from Time Out Chicago. The first 25 attendees will receive a free burrito from Chipotle, and there will be a raffle with various prizes, including tickets to the Film Center's Oscar party. The event starts at noon, and admission is free.
