This month, Armita Raafat has a solo show at threewalls gallery at 119 N. Peoria #2d. Raafat was born in Chicago but returned to her parents' homeland, Iran, in the 80s, during the Iran-Iraq War. This experience, as well as her cultural background, informed the concepts in her work. Raafat incorporates the architecture of muqarnas with Persian textiles, plaster, mirrors, paint, and papier mache and creates pieces that make the viewer question if the art is half-done or perhaps falling apart before their eyes.
At 6pm, Raafat will speak about her processes and influences.
Hang out with the coolest chicks (and the occasional dude) in town tonight, at the coolest bar in town, making stuff! What kind of stuff? Whatever you want! This event is from
5:30pm - 8:30pm at The Hideout: 1354 W. Wabansia.
