Facets Night School: Brick

Facets Cinematheque presents their Night School series of midnight screenings and lectures. Tonight's film is Rian Johnson's high school film noir Brick from 2006. The film will be preceded by a lecture by Facets employee Lauren Whalen. Facets Night School screenings are $5 (free for Facets members!), and include an educational packet of notes and articles for each class. Taste of the Neighborhoods Tour

The City hosts a tour today of the eats representing selected neighborhoods around Chicago--Greek on Halsted, Italian on Taylor, South side BBQ, Middle Eastern in Albany Park--and you can join them! The Taste of the Neighborhoods tour series meets monthly; destinations are announced a few weeks before the tour, so contact the City to find out what's on the menu for today.

RJD2 @ Metro

Hip-hop producer, label owner, and musician RJD2 rolls into town tonight. Check out our preview over in Transmission.

Belmont Burlesque Revue's 'Crime and Punishment' @ Playhouse Theater

The Belmont Burlesque Revue presents 'Crime and Punishment' tonight, Saturday March 13th at The Playground Theater (3209 N Halsted) at midnight. Vagina Monologues @ UIC

Today at both 2pm and 7pm, the UIC Student Outreach Services presents the University's annual production of Eve Ensler's "Vagina Monologues," a theatrical performance to celebrate women - and end violence. Profits from the show go to local agencies, groups and organizations involved in the struggle to end violence against women. Hosted at the Theatre, Education, Performing Arts & Social Work (EPASW), 1040 W. Harrison Street. Cost is $8 for students & UIC community, $10 for the general public. Tim Kinsella @ MCA

Tim Kinsella is the front man for deep-rooted Chicago band Joan of Arc, as well as Cap'n Jazz, Owls, and Make Believe. He curated Joan of Arc: Don't Mind Control, a compilation of songs by the extended Joan of Arc family including Vacations, Cale Parks, and Ghosts and Vodka. Kinsella will be performing with White/Light as part of the Museum of Contemporary Art's UBS 12x12 series. White/Light is experimental music duo, Matt Clark and Jeremy Lemos who will create an interactive music installation.

Seth Herzog added to the Two-Hour Comedy Hour

The Zog - aka, Seth Herzog who you've seen on VH1 and in "Role Models," "Prime," "Chappelle's Show" and "Stella" - was just added to this week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour. The weekly standup comedy showcase, hosted by Trey Mowder, also features standup comedians Chris Schlichting, C.J. Toledano, Lauren Vino, Brad Labree and Prashanth Venkataramanujam. There's no cover for the 21+ show -though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley (near Western and Milwaukee, just off the Blue Line stop). Guests are encouraged to arrive early.


Hideout "Sending the Four-star City to the Lone Star State" All-Day Party

The Hideout once again throws a big (and we mean BIG) send-off bash for some of their favorite Chicago bands heading down south to show Austin how we do at SXSW. Come and spend the day and listen to the likes of The Hood Internet, Via Tania, The Life During Wartime DJs, Plastic Crimewave Sound, Tom Schraeder, and many more! Details. Art as Event @ MCA

This is a panel discussion that looks at the "modes of art making and motivations that are leading artists to produce works that might best be described as events: situated in place, unfolding in time, and often performative or interactive in approach, these actions, interventions, and social situations challenge our notions of art." It will be moderated by art historian Irene V. Small, as well as a number of panelists, including artists and curators. Begins at 3pm. 220 East Chicago Avenue, MCA Theatre.

2010 Chicago Zine Fest

Open to the public and featuring self publishers from around Chicago, the Midwest, as well as zinesters from across the country, the Chicago Zine Fest is an independent event creating an outlet for small press and independent publishers to showcase their work. The goal is to make DIY zine-making accessible, highlighting the talents of self-published artists, and give independent artists a chance to interact, and swap skills through tabling, lectures, and workshops. It's happening at multiple venues around Chicago, including Quimby's Bookstore, Johalla Gallery, and Conaway Student Center at Columbia College. More information at ChicagoZineFest.Org.

Claychella @ Lincoln Hall

Clayton Hauck, the fella behind everyoneisfamous.com, throws his annual all-day bash Claychella today at Lincoln Hall. With upwards of 30 local DJs, a "photo booth" and drink specials galore, it's a doozy of a party. Things get rolling at noon. If you're over 21, the shindig is free til 10pm. After that it's just $5. Shredding and Recycling Day

Bring up to three bags or boxes of paper to the Kmart parking lot on Ashland just north of Division, and Secure EcoShred will destroy them before your very eyes. For more information and future shredding and recycling dates, check out the WPB site. 10am-12pm.

Handmade Market

About 30 of the city's greatest makers of handmade goods will be gathering today at Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Avenue) from Noon to 4pm for another Handmade Market Chicago. The sellers will help you you pick out a few gifts for others, or yourself. You can see who is selling at the show here. And one of the best parts of this show is that you get to sip a tall frosty something while you peruse fantastic products. If you don't leave with full shopping bags, you may leave inspired, or at least a little tipsy.

Family Farmed Expo @ UIC

The Family Farmed Expo is great opportunity to meet and chew the sustainable cud with advocates of local growing and eating initiatives. Lectures, exhibits, and of course food are on the menu. Event is at UIC Forum, 725 West Roosevelt.
