The Nadas, named by Playboy as "the best college band you've never heard of," play tonight at Schubas to celebrate the release of their record Almanac on Authentic Records. Rahm Emanuel, Mayor Daley, PBS correspondent Judy Woodruff, Motorola CEO Greg Brown and mayors of several other large cities (Paris, Johannesburg) are among the political and media hotshots who will be at UIC's Daley Forum today for a discussion titled "New Partnerships for a New Economy: Driving Innovation in Cities." The talk will focus on public-private partnerships as a way to help provide city services in challenging economic times--maybe we'll chat about the parking meters? Talk is 8:30am to 12:30pm in the UIC Forum, 725 West Roosevelt. The forum is free for UIC students, faculty and staff, and $25 for the general public. Advance registration required.
Printervention is an exhibition of over 70 posters and prints at the Chicago Tourism Center Gallery. For the show, artists from around the country created works to raise awareness of modern social and political issues. The show also features a mobile silk screen cart for distributing work in parks and on the street, as well as workshops and demonstrations which are part of Version Festival. Tonight there will be an opening party for Part 2 of the Printervention show, with prints on display. The party/show is tonight from 7pm to 1am at The Whistler: 2421 N Milwaukee. 21+.
