They Face Reaction @ Elbo Room

Originally from Brazil, the punk rock enthusiasts They Face Reaction perform at Elbo Room (2871 N. Lincoln) as part of a four band lineup that includes Ten of Swords, Steven Daly and Goodbye Home. $8 gets you in to see all four bands. Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 8:30. CHIRP Reading Event: The First Time @ Uncommon Ground

CHIRP Radio presents its inaugural reading event, "The First Time," at Uncommon Ground's Devon Avenue location (1401 W. Devon). A series of authors will read essays about "Their First Time," and each essay will include a song or artist. After each reading the band (Liam Davis, Steve Frisbie and Gerald Dowd) will play that song or artist. The show begins tonight at 8pm and seating is limited; if you make dinner reservations you're guaranteed a seat for the show. Admission is a suggested $10 donation; if you can't attend the event you can also make a donation at the CHIRP Radio Website.

Budgie @ Kinetic Playground

Legendary '70's rock band Budgie will grace Chicago with their presence and play tonight only at The Kinetic Playground (1113 W. Lawrence Avenue). The doors will open at 8pm and local band Groovy Love Vibes will open the show at 9pm. Ticket are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Unearthed Arcana: Narrative Art for Others @ LVL 3

This show consists of thirteen living artists representing several generations of American life-- Family-men, healers, care-takers, lovers, and a space goddess, with stories told through psychedelic non-fiction and future traditions. Artists include: Roderick MacKenzie, Gunsho, Kyla Cech, Scott Alerio, Margeurite Keyes, Nemo Boko, Travis Millard, James Bruce King, J. Chris Johnson, Lisabeth Gutierrez, Peter Karpick, Goddess Irena, & Orion Dommisse. The show is tonight at LVL 3 Gallery: 1542 N Milwaukee Ave., third floor from 6-10pm (free afterparty @ Rodan: 1530 Milwaukee Ave.).

Last Q4 Open Mic Benefit @ The Wicker Well

This will be the last of the family night/20hz/20klz open mic fundraisers to support Quennect 4 Gallery with some of the bands who were there from the beginning: The Blah Blah Blahs, BBU, Unearthed and Alicia with DJs Offbeat and Je'july laying down beats. This event is tonight at The Wicker Well: 1637 W. North Ave. from 9pm to 2am. 21+.

Soul Summit Dance Party @ Lincoln Hall

As part of the Soul Summit dance party series, explosive, raw R&B, Soul and Funk will be laid down tonight by Dava Mata (Impala Sound), Duke Grip (Spectrum) and Sloppy White (Lick my Gimmick). Silk screened posters will be for sale designed by Spike Press and Scott "Sloppy White" Williams. This party's from 10pm to 2am at Lincoln Hall: 2424 N Lincoln Ave.

March for Jobs in the Financial District

Sponsored by the national offices of the AFL-CIO and the Chicago Federation of Labor, marchers will gather at 11am at the Willis Tower, where Goldman Sachs has its Chicago offices, to "demand that Wall Street pay to fix the mess they created so we can put millions of people back to work." From there, the march will head to the financial district.

Free Books and Beer @ Sheffield's Beer Garden

Today marks the release of the Not For Tourists Guide To Chicago 2010 iPhone app. Attendees of the launch party who print a voucher from the NFT site can pick up a free NFT Guide to Chicago 2010 and enjoy a 312 Urban Wheat Ale while supplies last.
