Green Festival @ Navy Pier

Today and tomorrow's Green Festival offers workshops on gardening, community advocacy, and home conservation to green up your world. Event is at Navy Pier, 10am-7pm (11am-6pm tomorrow).

Chop Suey @ Chicago History Museum

Join food writer Andrew Coe to learn more about the history of the beloved Chinese-ish dish at the Chicago History Museum, North and Clark, at 10am this morning. Coe will be available to sign copies of his newest book Chop Suey: A Cultural History of Chinese Food in the United States, and attendees will get a nifty sampling of Chinese food. AM Taxi @ Metro

Chicago's AM Taxi are geared for a big 2010 with a debut album release and a spot on this summer's Warped Tour. The album We Don't Stand a Chance lands somewhere between a glossy Replacements and a poppy Gaslight Anthem. They'll play with the Spill Canvas and Tyler Hilton at Metro. The New Politics open. National Tap Day Festival @ Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 N. Lincoln, celebrates the art of tap dancing with its National Tap Day Festival tonight at 7:30pm. The festival, led by Old Town School instructor Reggio "The Hoofer" McLaughlin, will feature some of the best tap dancers from Chicago and beyond, including Tre Dumas, George "Mo Leggs" Patterson and members of the Chicago Tap Theatre. Profits or the Planet: Capitalism and Ecological Crisis

Riot Grrrl Cover Band Show @ Locked Out

The Bloody Rag Collective hosts a riot grrrl cover band show, including songs by Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Heavens To Betsy, and other '90s female-fronted punk bands. Benefiting the Chicago Women's Health Center -- and promoting healthy vaginas -- the show features local bands like Bird Talk, the Classy Ladies, and Tiger Spirit. The poster promises, "Yes, we will write slut on your stomach." Locked Out, 3951 W. Fullerton Ave., 5pm. $5-$10 suggested donation.

Kurosawa Double Feature @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center is running an Akira Kurosawa series through June, and this afternoon you can see two of his films: Stray Dog (1949) at 3pm and Throne of Blood (1957) at 5:30pm. World Kitchen Learning Series: Come to the Cabaret

The cuisine of Berlin is on stage at this class, which is part of the World Kitchen learning series offered by the City of Chicago. Class runs 11am-2pm at Gallery 37 for the Arts, 55 East Randolph. Pre-registration required; admission is $30.

Two-Hour Comedy Hour @ Gallery Cabaret

This week's Two-Hour Comedy Hour, a weekly standup comedy showcase hosted by Trey Mowder, features standup comedians Brendan McGowan, Cameron Gillette, Renee Schultz and Derek Lazarski. This free show features a different lineup each week. There's no cover for the 21+ show -though a $5 donation is accepted - and it runs from 7-9 pm at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley (near Western and Milwaukee, just off the Blue Line stop). Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Gardening Event @ Cob Connection

Come out on from 10am-3pm to the 415 N. Kedzie farm. There will be workshops and live demos (10am-12 noon) as well as special events, food and live music (12pm-3pm). Learn about volunteering with Cob Connection. Mike Nowak from WCPT will be there to interview you!


5th Annual Blood Drive @ Sacred Art

Sacred Art hosts its 5th annual blood drive at its store in Lincoln Square (4619 N. Lincoln Avenue). A bloodmobile from Lifesource will be accommodating blood donors from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Wired Up @ Congress Lounge

Join Beyondmedia Education for Wired-Up: Youth Takes on Violence today at Roosevelt University's Congress Lounge (430 S Michigan Ave). Celebrating the work of the Chain of Change project and other Beyondmedia programs, the event engages both youth and adults in productive dialogues and aims to strengthen the bonds between participants from diverse communities.
