The Legacy of Chess Records @ Blue Heaven Studios

Take a rare look at the Chess Records Studio, where the likes of Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Chuck Berry lay down their tracks. In 1993 the building was bought by Marie Dixon, Willie Dixon's widow, and donated to the Willie Dixon Blues Heaven Foundation. Visitors will be given a tour of the space, and participate in a blues harmonica workshop taught by musicians Doktu Rhute Muuzic and Fernando Jones. Ticket holders will also have the chance to meet Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, hosts of WBEZ's Sound Opinions, who will share their thoughts on the Chess Records legacy. 2120 S. Michigan Avenue, tickets $15.

Spatial City @ Hyde Park Art Center

Come view the Spatial City exhibition at Hyde Park Art Center, 5020 S Cornell Ave, from 3pm to 5pm. This show features works that reflect the environmentally influenced cycling and recycling of optimism and cynicism of each individual artist. There are over 22,000 pieces in this exhibition, and will be up until August 8.

Anita Diamant @ Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies

Anita Diamant reads at the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies today. Diamant, author of the word-of-mouth book club sensation The Red Tent, will be reading from her latest book, Day After Night. Her newest tells the story of refugees at a British-run internment camp set up in Palestine after WWII. The Washington Post says Day After Night "offers all the satisfactions found in [Diamant's} previous works: Rich portraits of female friendship, unflinching acknowledgment of life's cruelty and resolute assertion of hope, enfolded in a strong story line developed in lucid prose." Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, 610 S. Michigan Ave., $18, $8 for students. Sunday, May 23 at 2pm.

Jeff Kowalkowski @ Experimental Sound Studio

At 2pm at Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N. Ravenswood, Jeff Kowalkowski performs a one-hour piano set. Jeff's chamber music works have been performed internationally. $10 suggested donation, $7 students and ESS members.

Local H @ Metro

Local H will stay true to their name when they play a hometown show at Metro tonight in celebration of the release of their live DVD 68 Angry Minutes. One lucky fan will draw the name of one of the band's albums, and Local H will play the album in its entirety. Powerpop outfit Kinch will start off the night, and inevitably learn a thing or two about how to rock a live show from their more seasoned elders. Tickets are $12. 7pm. All ages. 3730 N. Clark St.
