Soul Clap & Dance-Off @ Beauty Bar
Tired of head-bopping to remixed 80s hits? Want a break from break-dancing? Then come on down to Beauty Bar's monthly Soul Clap & Dance-Off, presented by New York Night Train! Jive to DJ Jonathan Toubin's infamous soul 45s! The party starts at 10pm, with only a $5 entry fee. World Kitchen Learning Series: When Salad is the Meal
Salads get an upgrade from side to entree at this class, which is part of the World Kitchen learning series offered by the City of Chicago. Class runs 6-8:30pm at Gallery 37 for the Arts, 55 East Randolph. Pre-registration required; admission is $30.
Urban Gateways' Interactive Arts Benefit @ Cultural Center
Support arts education for every Chicago-area child. Join Urban Gateways for an evening of cocktails, dinner, and interactive media, visual and performance art. Children are encouraged to attend. Cold Cave, Hair Police, Locrian @ Empty Bottle
Rescheduled after an aborted March performance, Cold Cave, Hair Police, and Locrian will finally storm The Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western) for a proper hearing. Cold Cave's resuscitating of the "Darkwave" synth-pop genre (with modern touches, of course) has been attracting due notice; Hair Police have been crafting their shriek into the abyss since the tail end of the '90s, and get better with every outing; Locrian absorb the loneliness of abandoned places and spin it into black webs of reverie. 9 p.m., $10.
