Taste of Chicago @ Grant Park

The roller coaster ride of food and entertainment that is the Taste of Chicago starts today at Grant Park. Event runs through July 4.

A Hot D8 During Pride Weekend

The Hot D8 Campaign, featuring comedians Ben Lerman, Cameron Esposito and Mo Welch, kicks off a mini tour tonight at 8 pm at Mary's Attic (above Hamburger Mary's) 5400 N. Clark. Tickets are $12. Read more about it -- and why

Grant Park Orchestra @ Harris Theater

Tonight the Grant Park Music Festival takes a fascinating look at three early winners of the Pulitzer Prize: including the rarely heard A Free Song by William Schuman (1943) and Aaron Copland's quintessentially American ballet Appalachian Spring Suite (1945). The program also features Chicago composer Leo Sowerby's The Canticle of the Sun (1946). 6:30pm. Harris Theater for Music and Dance. Free.

Michael Jackson Memorial Procession

The Michael Jackson Memorial Procession, organized and led by Chicago based artist Jason Lazarus, is a commemoration to the dynamic pop legend. At 6pm, a 50 car-long caravan will proceed from his boyhood home in Gary, IN and travel throughout the city of Chicago, IL. All procession participants will be given disposable point and shoot cameras and video cameras for documentation of their journeys to contribute to the project. Chopin Celebration with Grazyna Auguscik @ Millenium Park

At 6:30pm this evening, please join acclaimed jazz singer, Grazyna Auguscik in her salute to composer Frederick Chopin in an evening of visionary interpretations of the composer's masterpieces at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, 55 N Michigan Ave. Entitled Chopin 200: Grazyna Auguscik's World Sound, Auguscik has won the praise and admiration of music critics with her unorthodox approach to rewriting classic works as an adventure into uncharted territory.

GARRRBAGE WORRRLD @ Mortville

Darkest hearts desire darkest pleasures. Gertie Garbage, will once again host a night of performance art featuring the return of Bargain Hunter, Ishtar Bukkake and Heather-Marie Vernon and introducing Heather Lynn, BorderClinic, Charles Mahaffee and Natalee Decker at Mortville, 2106 S Kedzie at 9:00pm. Donuts will be provided, fluids shall be shared. The night will end with dancing, $5 donation is encouraged.

Modern Groceries Opening @ Dittmar Gallery

The exhibition "Modern Groceries" showcases the color photographs of Chicago-based artist Stephanie Dean. Evocative of seventeenth-century still life paintings, the focus of Dean's vivid images are the packaged foods of modern life. The exhibition opens tonight from 6:00 to 8:00pm and runs through August 11 at the Dittmar Gallery, housed inside Northwestern University's Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive, Evanston, 847-491-2348. It is free and open to the public. All visitors to the exhibit can enter a raffle to win a $100 Whole Foods gift card.

Jody Watley @ Harold Washington Cultural Center

Jody Watley performs live at "The Music Experience" concert series tonight at the Harold Washington Cultural Center, 4701 S. King Dr. Doors open at 7pm; show begins at 8pm. American Spanish Dance Festival's Flamenco Passion @ North Shore Center for Performing Arts

The culmination of Chicago's Ensemble Español's American Spanish Dance Festival, Flamenco Passion will feature three Flamenco dance world premieres. The performance takes place at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, Skokie, 9501 Skokie Blvd. at 7:30pm. Tickets are $26-$46. Free parking is available. Thievery Corporation @ Congress Theater

"Outernational" DJ and production duo Thievery Corporation performs material from Radio Retaliation, the team's fifth independent studio album tonight at the Congress (2135 N Milwaukee Ave). The all-ages show promises an "uncompromising socio-political agenda" incorporating eclectic sounds of Jamaica, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Doors at 7:30pm. Tickets are $40 including "service charges".
