Willy Wonka @ Fulton River Park
The Fulton River District and Blommer Chocolate Company hold an outdoor showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the superior Gene Wilder version) at dusk (8:45pm) tonight at Fulton River Park (601 W. Kinzie St.). The exciting part? They will be giving out chocolate bars beforehand, some of which will have Golden Tickets (wow! really!) for gift certificates at restaurants (among them Province, Carnivale, the Chicago French Market and Prairie Fire) and other fun prizes. Get there early.
Moth Story Slam @ Martyr's
Tonight is the next edition of the Moth Story Slam, held the last Tuesday of every month. Tonight's theme is "Scars." Martyr's, 3855 North Lincoln Avenue. Stories start at 8pm (get there early to ensure seating). Cost: $7 at the door.
Alan Goldsher and Jeffrey Brown @ Quimby's
Tonight Quimby's features Alan Goldsher & Jeffrey Brown, the writer and artist who collaborated on Paul Is UnDead - The British Zombie Invasion. Publishers Weekly says "are readers ready for a world in which the Beatles just wanna eat your brains? Roughly paralleling the real-world career of the Beatles, this alternate history reimagines successes, failures, and rivalries with over-the-top bizarro charm." Brent Kimbrough @ MCA's Tuesdays on the Terrace
Every Tuesday during the summer the Museum of Contemporary Art presents free live jazz concerts from some of the city's most legendary and innovative musicians. Tonight's performance features Brent Kimbrough. Grab some friends and a blanket for a relaxing evening on the garden lawn, or make a night of it with a reservation at Puck's.
